(More customer reviews)I bought this faceplate to install a Pioneer AVIC-Z2 in my 2002 X5, which originally came with the "Bordmonitor" built-in Navigation system.
Many sources online list this kit for sale, and some with the notation "Not for cars equipped with Navigation System"
Well, it did work for me, with some minor tweaking.
To begin with, the instructions call for you to attach the brackets to the radio unit and then install in the car by snapping the brackets in place. Then, the faceplate is supposed to be installed on top of this.
However, installing the brackets so that they are both exactly even is very difficult, and even the smallest deviation results in a radio that looks skewed.
I found it easier to attach the brackets to the faceplate and then place the faceplate around the radio and then screw the brackets into the radio. The entire assembly then slides into the dashboard.
However, three was a noticeable gap at the bottom, and the faceplate is set up so that the radio is at the bottom of the faceplate.
I reversed the brackets (putting L on the right and R on the left) and turned the faceplate upside down from the orientation in the photo. Not only does it fit better, but the gap at the bottom is gone. And it looks better as well. The radio is in the center of the dash, not near the bottom. The small gap is now at the top, where it is not noticeable, as it next to the A/C vents.
Overall, I think it is a good product, and for $15 reasonably priced. The finish is a matte black paint that matches the panel paint on the BMW pretty closely. It looks "normal" in the car, and not cheap or aftermarket.
