(More customer reviews)If you have a race bike with a light aluminum handle bar, it probably has a diameter of more than 25 mm. Then this mount is the one you need. It comfortably fits any handle bar with a diameter in the range of 25 to 32 mm. It comes with three rubber strips of different thickness to adjust to the proper size.
It is too bad that you need to purchase this mount on top of the bicycle mount that is delivered with the special clipped backing for your Garmin. The standard mount does not fit any rail with a diameter larger than 25 mm.
In my case, I switched bikes and my new bike had a wider bar. So I'm lucky to have a mount now on both the old and new bike. But if you start from scratch, and have wide handle bar, you are faced with two purchases.

Garmin Hook and loop wrist strap (expander strap with screws included) Review

(More customer reviews)This was a direct replacement for a 4 year old strap. The problem is that Velcro looses its grip over time. I've come close to loosing my Garmin several times. My unit has pins like a watch, but they are inserted into the plastic body of the Garmin. I've had one of them pop out before. The strap comes with screws instead of pins, but I was able to reuse the original pins. Overall, I wish they would improve the design to be more secure such as adding an outer strap layer to make a secure connection. After all, I use this when flying, windsurfing, and skiing.

(More customer reviews)I give it three stars, because it has worked for over a year now. Would not buy one now, because Plenio does not make updated maps available, so maps are over a year old. As a result, it can not find any new streets or addresses. In addition, the rechargable battery lasted about six months. I now have to plug it in whenever I want to use it now. I will not buy another Plenio product, because the product support (maps and operating system updates) is poor. I suppose that's why the cost of the product is low.

Plenio VXA-5000 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator Review

(More customer reviews)This review may help someone like me who is not knowledgeable about GPS and is looking for basic functionality. I was looking for a unit that is portable (so I could also use it for walking or switch cars) and has a widescreen display, so I settled on comparing a Garmin Nuvi 650 Personal Travel Assistant for North America and a Plenio VXA-5000 4.3-Inch Touch Screen Car Navigation System with Bluetooth.
1.Audio - The Plenio does not have text to speech functionality, meaning the Plenio will announce "Turn left in 500 feet," while the Nuvi 650 will announce "Turn left on Main Street in 500 feet." I found the Plenio confusing if there were two possible left turns close to each other, and the display didn't always help. (See "Display").
2.Display- The Plenio display appeared dim and difficult to read on bright days, even at the brightest setting. The Nuvi had a brighter, easy to read display even when driving toward sunlight. When a turn is announced, the text of the street name on the Plenio is small and difficult to read; on the Nuvi the street name is announced and the visible text is larger, bolder and easy to read. This also makes it easier to keep track of cross streets when operating in "tracking mode" rather than inputting a destination.
3.Portability- The Garmin is thinner and lighter. The Plenio's suction mount is more substantial, but it has to be to hold up the device.
4.Controls- The Plenio has volume up and down controls, on the Garmin these are only accessible with some difficulty through the touch screen.
5.Accessories- The Plenio includes an FM transmitter, (sound can play through your FM radio) and Bluetooth; to get this functionality with the Garmin, a trade up to the Garmin Nuvi 660 Pocket Vehicle GPS Navigator and Personal Travel Assistant is necessary. The Plenio includes an AC charger, a useful tool in a portable GPS. If you have a mini USB AC charger, you can use it with the Garmin.
6.Waypoints- The Garmin allows only one waypoint (stopover on the trip); multiple waypoints are available on the Plenio.
7.**** Satellite reception- The Plenio has an internal antenna while the Garmin has a foldaway flip up antenna flap. The Plenio was totally incapable of getting a satellite fix, and therefore useless, while in my wife's car (she has a metallic layer in the windshield as some cars do); the Garmin had no such problem. The Garmin also could fix while indoors. The Garmin allows the user to turn on "WAAS" which is a combined satellite and ground GPS mode that is more accurate than satellite alone; I haven't seen that WAAS makes a difference to a basic user like me. The Garmin seems to get a fix from a cold start about 25% faster than the Plenio.

8.Points of interest and maps- The Garmin maps (v.8) seemed "less out of date" than the Plenio. (maybe 2 years out of date versus 3-4 years). The Garmin has a more substantial list of points of interest (POI's). The Plenio allows you to program the unit to show your choice of POI's (such as all gas stations and/or restaurants) as icons on the map, and bring up more information ( name, phone number) by touching the icon; the Garmin will provide this information from a separate search menu.
To summarize, the Plenio had more bells and whistles which I willingly traded in for the much improved basic functionality of the Garmin.

Garmin GA26 Remote Vehicle Antenna for StreetPilot II+ and III+ Review

(More customer reviews)What a great plus for anyone who uses their GPS for their car. I bought this antenna for my StreetPilot III. As I opened the box, I was surprised how small and compact it really is (about the size of a cell phone). I chose to use the suction cup method which took literally 30 seconds to assemble. It simply entailed taking off the antenna on the StreetPilot III and replacing it with the antenna and then screwing the antenna to the suction cup mount. Then I took the suction cup and mounted it first on my windshield. When it usually takes up to a minute to sufficiently aquire satellites, the antenna allowed me to aquire over six satellites within 15 seconds. I also suctioned it on to the side window with the same success. By the way, if you choose to mount it on the outside of the vehicle, it simply involves screwing the antenna to a magnet which magnetically sticks to the car. There is no screwing into the car itself! Also, it has enough cable to run wherever needed. This is a great product!

This case works fine on a belt, but I think that an attachment design which would have allowed use on a shoulder strap would significantly increase its usefulness. Construction is excellent, padding is adequate, fit is perfect. I think that a more imaginative attachment design would have been appreciated by many.

This is a refurbished GPS. Refurbished generally means that the unit has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the navigator back to like new conditions. (More customer reviews)Some of the cons are bad user manual. It says charge the unit even though there is no internal battery. It has USB ports but no usb cable. There is charger for car but no power adapter if you need to take it home or so. I wish it came with at least those 2 accessories when you are paying 500 for this baby.
However, the gps itself is really great. Inserted the sd card, plugged in the car charger and the unit was ON. It picked up signal immediately. 7 in screen is really great. Tried few addresses and got voice guided directions immediately. Even tried nearest gas station which worked nice. Took some wrong turns and it recalcuated new route instantly.
I think it would be a great buy if you are looking nice GPS. I haven't exercised other features such as mp3 or video but I am really not intersted in them.

Garmin A/C Charger for Forerunner 201 (010-10483-00) Review

(More customer reviews)It comes with the Forerunner 201 so you don't have to get this unless you somehow lost it. If you need to get it, this is WAY over-priced. It doesn't even come with the data cable, which is sold separately. Garmin accessories are always very expensive.
Here are some comments on the charger.
1. The bracket fits the GPS unit very tightly. It hurts my fingers to remove the GPS units after charging. I hope the plastic don't break one day forcing me to replace the charger.
2. The design of the bracket makes it impossible to use the connector which also transmit data with other Garmin GPS. This is very irritating since Garmin data cables are SO expensive. Why force us to buy expensive accessories.... Hmm, profit? Damn, I hate marketing people!

(More customer reviews)I just got this product and I wasn't satisfied. The product claims that the mount can rotate 360 degrees; however, that's only true for the windshield mount. The vent mount is fixed and doesn't rotate or even tilt.
Although not very stable, the windshield mount is acceptable. The vent mount, on the other hand, isn't that great: it was not easy to install and I had the impression that I was going to break the mount pins as I was pushing it into the vent. My vents in my car are located near the top of the dash, so they are angled and do not face me (as the driver) perfectly; since the vent mount has no rotational capabilities, my phone's orientation isn't convenient and is hard to see while driving. Also, it was quite hard to insert and remove my iphone from the mount as it doesn't fit easily, probably because of the protective case on my iphone. The difficulty in inserting/removing the phone makes it not practical, since the pressure can easily damage my vent if not inserted/removed with care.
Overall, I believe only the windshield mount is usable; otherwise, if you're looking to use the vent mount, then I wouldn't recommend this product unless your vent's orientation in your car faces you perfectly. If you have a protective case on your phone, then I wouldn't recommend this product, since it doesn't fit easily.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this neoprene case to protect my new Garmin nuvi 1490T GPS. It does just that, and very well... The case is a perfect fit for the GPS, with just the right amount of wiggle room so as not to be too tight. The easy-glide zipper allows me to easily open and close the case even with one hand. A small external zippered pocket is a great place to store business cards, or to store gasoline receipts after I enter my fuel purchase and mileage information into the GPS. A small lanyard comes attached to place around your wrist so as not to drop the case when carrying it. This case would also be useful for any similarly-sized GPS or other electronics you wish to carry and protect. The price could not be beat as you will find similar items at twice or more the price. Overall, a great value and very well made.

RAM Mounting Systems RAM-B-186U Double Ball Motorcycle Mount for Handlebar Clamps Review

(More customer reviews)The assembly is an absolute marvel; it installs in a few minutes on many motorcycle handlebar clamps (3 different bolts are included to acomodate various hole depths) and makes up a flexible arm to which many RAM attachments that take diamond plates can be bolted. Once tightened, the arm is very sturdy, yet thanks to the rubber balls, it dampens vibration down to a negligible level, thus protecting any mounted equipment. The arm assembly is a bit bulkier and heavier than I imagined, but I don't think that my expectations are of any importance.
The only thing that I do not like is that the peg that goes into the hole on the clamp is a bit smaller than the head of the bolt that it replaces -- water will stay in the hole if things are left on their own. I've dried everything up, replaced a factory washer that has started to rust a little, and put a little silicone sealant in the hole -- everything took two minutes of my precious time.
Size of the arm is extremely appropriate, I don't want it to be any longer or shorter; the range of movement suits my needs perfectly. Nevertheless, both shorter and longer arms are available from RAM.

If your internal battery that allows you to use your GPS while not attached to an external power source, such as your car/ bike cradle, has not failed yet. Congratulations, but, it's just a matter of time. Be prepared for sticker shock when inquiring at Garmin for a replacement battery, however, once again, Amazon comes though saving you $$ and time by ordering on-line. This product is an excellent value and I was surprised to see it was the same genuine "Garmin Product" at a great savings.

Garmin Carrying Case for the 500 & 550 GPS Review

(More customer reviews)I own and have owned quite a few GPS receivers including a recently purchased Garmin Colorado 400t. I bought my new Nuvi 500 (my 3rd Nuvi) as a cross-over GPS, one that I could walk around with, bike with, use to geocachache, as well as use it in a car. This is what the 500 and the 550 were designed for (according to Garmin's website). I had hoped that Garmin might have designed a great case for it, as they did for the Colorado series. Alas, this was not the case (pun fully intended).
The GOOD:
* It's lightweight
* It is very compact
* It seems to be good at keeping out the elements
* It's priced right
The BAD
* For a GPS that is billed as being field-worthy this case has a zipper (making it harder to get into), not a latch as does the Colorado case
* It has no belt loop, mount or strap to allow one to easily carry it in the field. The Colorado case has several mounting options, this case has only as tiny string on the zipper
* It has no storage options, not even for an extra battery
I am very happy with the GPS unit itself but the case could have been designed to augment the function of the device, not just hold it. This may have been designed with all Nuvi's in mind, which would explain it's generic features. However, a waterproof, multifunctional GPS like the 500 (and it's brother, the 550) deserve a case of their own.
