CHRYSLER IPOD INTERFACE (PACIPACCHY) Review

CHRYSLER IPOD INTERFACE (PACIPACCHY)

There's not a whole lot to this product. For someone who doesn't work on his car or perform modifications in any way, this was a very easy installation with one caveat. I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and I had to search around for a while to find instructions on how to properly remove the front bezel around the radio (I don't have the link anymore but a Google search will turn it up). The key is having a sturdy tool to get under one edge of the bezel and applying a fair amount of force without being rough (you don't want to mar up your dashboard).
Once the hard part of getting the bezel off was done, it was a very simple matter of a few screws to remove the radio and plug in the iPAC to the DVD navigation port (for me it was the only empty port since I didn't have the DVD Nav system). Also be aware if you have a CD changer when you plug the power back in (even with the car off as I recall) the CD changer will start making noise and cycling through all its CD slots. This caught me off guard, but after it ran through all six and verified that nothing was in the changer it stopped.
Snaking the iPod cable through the back of the dash and into the glove compartment was a little challenging for my less than petite hands as well, but didn't take more than a minute to succeed. This product comes with both the iPod cable and the left & right RCA plugs for a stereo headphone jack but if you want to use the headphone jack you'll need at least a 3' RCA -> 1/8" headphone jack cable before you start (or you'll have to take the bezel off again when you want to add the headphone jack cable. It's very nice that this allows both the iPod connection and the headphone jack in one device. Note: the headphone jack will not allow the music device to be controlled from the radio or steering wheel, only the iPod connector.
Pros:
- Easy to install
- Controls iPod from car audio controls
- Hides out of sight in the glove compartment
- Charges the iPod through the iPod connector
Cons:
- Doesn't display the ID3 tag info on the radio display
- Sound was not as full as I had expected (though that could be the recording on the device)
I would highly recommend this product for anyone with a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited!

Hi,
I can just recommend it, it is the cool (and may be only) way how to listen to your music on iPod/iPhone through the factory radio in my Jeep WJ. Easy to mount.

The PA11 series iPod interfaces provide direct connection for an iPod plus an optional audio source such as satellite radio, DVD, or video game system. Both the iPod and the additional audio source can be selected from the factory radioâ??s front panel. The interface adapter connects the iPod to your factory radio as if it were a CD changer, allowing direct selection of iPod playlists through the radioâ??s preset (or disc) buttons and is compatible with iPod models featuring the dock connector, including the iPod nano and 5G iPod video. There are two operating modes available for the interface, Playlist Mode and Direct Mode. Playlist Mode uses the controls on the factory radio to provide basic navigation functions including song up/down, playlist up/down, repeat, shuffle, scan, and FF/REW functions. Direct Mode uses the iPod's click wheel to navigate through the iPod's menus and select songs, artists, playlists, etc. and the radio buttons are used only for volume, bass and treble. Both modes still charge the iPod while connected, and stops one hour after the iPod is paused to prevent over-charging. Note: Display of artist and song title information, track search by artist, song title, album or genre are NOT supported. Only the Playlist and track numbers are displayed. I recently ordered this part from Amazon, but instead I ended up getting the totally opposite adapter. Instead I received the male connector (which is not even shown as being available individually here).

Scosche CR1289B 2005-Up Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep Nav Stereo Replacement Kit Review

Scosche CR1289B 2005-Up Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep Nav Stereo Replacement Kit

I purchased this specific kit because it was listed as fitting my 05 grand Cherokee w/nav. My laredo did not come with the navigation, just the stock cd player model. I did not want the kit that goes with with it, since that kit leaves two half circles on the sides where the stock radio dials were located, so I went and purchased the nav bezel to replace the whole thing. I purchased the correct bezel, that goes with an 05 grand Cherokee. I went to install the scosche nav kit and there is a 1/8-1/4" gap all around the sides. I contacted scosche directly, emailed them pix of the install, and now they are supposedly sending me a different piece for it. When I compair pictures of the scosche kit with the Metra kit listed for the Grand Cherokee w/nav the outer trim ring looks wider on the Metra kit. Since then I have talked to people with the Metra kit and they say it fits no problem. So not sure if I happened to get the wrong trim piece in the package, or they are all the wrong size. Trying to see if anyone else has had this problem.
