(More customer reviews)This strap is excellent; if you own the forerunner 201! I bought this because the 'bought with' info on amazon indicated this might work with the Forerunner 305 that I received as an early Christmas gift. It does NOT fit with the garmin 305!
I bought Gps, Hook-and-loop Fastener Wrist, part number 010-10713-00, instead and it works like a charm. My 5 star review here reflects the overall quality of the piece, but I thought it would be helpful for any other Garmin Shoppers to know what they were getting (since this item shows up prominently if you search for a velcro strap for the 205/305.

(More customer reviews)This GPS data logger works great for the price as a motorcycle lap timer with the added bonus of GPS location info allowing analysis of any part of the track such as corner speed and location at 0.2 second intervals. However, it would be nice if it logged at 10Hz versus 5Hz. With GPS accuracy of 6-9 feet I don't know if it would really give you much better information as far as track location on the width of the track but would give you more information on speed through the corners as even at 60 mph you are traveling 88 feet per second and so at 5Hz you are only getting points every 17.6 feet. 10 Hz would bring the data points inline with the accuracy of current GPS systems with a recorded point approx. every 8.8 feet when traveling at 60 mph. You must download the data to a computer and use the companies Qsports software with lap analysis function enabled to view data since no local LCD screen controls etc..., but if Qstarz added these would definitely raise the costs which at the current price is a great deal and why I decided to purchase. A couple recommendations I have for using the gps data logger as a lap timer are to not select the check box to remove drift points when importing data from the device, I have not been able to determine from the literature what removing drift points actually does, but has messed up some data. The other recommendation I have is to download/import data from the device to the computer after each session on the track and delete the data stored on the device after successful import. The time for import is not as long and it ensures your sessions are kept as separate data files.

Great mount suction, but poor mount-to-GPS tightness, no matter how hard you crank down on the tightening bolt.

(More customer reviews)The unit gets amazingly quick GPS locks. Typically less than 15 seconds, and often just a few. The UI is extermely easy to use. Very snappy graphics and operation. No owner's manual is necessary. Has all the features you would expect from a unit this price. Even has 12M POI which is 2x to 9x the number that other units have. I played with the unit a little at BestBuy before buying it. What sold me is the TTS feature that announces street names in the directions (Turn on Lincoln Ave instead of just Turn Left). It was the cheapest one there that had this feature. When I compared the TTS quality with that of the more expensive units, the h/k GPS-310 won hands down. The others sounded like robots. This unit sounds much more natural. Easy decision. Great product. Fantastic price.

I did learn I need to put in my preferences. After that I was one happy traveler. Pulling into a north Chicago suburb late at night without a room reservation, I tried the points of interest feature for the first time. I selected a motel, it took me straight there without having drive forever looking or reading a map at night. This unit more than paid for itself on this one trip. Another feature I liked was pulling off the road and driving into a town I was not familiar with. After looking around for a while, I switched the unit back on, it replotted my route and got me out of town and on my way in no time. I am buying a unit for my wife and one for my daughter. These are no longer toys but a have to have for safety and convenience.

Arrived at a new destination and plugged in my GPS and no power- I thought there was something wrong with the cigarette lighter outlet but noticed the "tip" of my GTM20 was missing. I went to Amazon and didn't feel like spending the $86 for a new GTM20, even though I like hearing the GPS lady warning me there is traffic in 2 miles. I was just going to buy a regular Garmin automobile power cord when I read a review of a guy who had an identical experience with losing the tip. He described in detail how he phoned Garmin support and got the replacement tip kit(fuse,metal and plastic screw in components)-I followed his direction and persisted in holding on for >30minutes but finally spoke to a human and ordered the kit for $11 including shipping and it arrived in 3 days. It assembled quickly and easily and I didn't have to by a new power adapter of any sort. I looked and can't find the review that gave me this valuable information but if you happen to need only the "tip" this review will save you money. I could not find this kit for sale on the Garmin website.

I have it right on the handle bar and when the GPS is not mounted you can barely tell it's there. The GPS snaps into a holder that snaps onto the semi-permanent mount that stays on your bars. Works like a champ and the best part is that the GPS can easily be removed when you get where you're going. If you use your bike for long trips or just like to see where you are this works great.

GARMIN 010-11049-00 Astro DC 30 Wirelesss Collar Transmitter Review

(More customer reviews)The original astro came packaged with a small rechargable orange transmitter and a velcro harness to put it on your dog. Anyone mixing velcro and dog hair knows what happens next. There was also a plastic clip you could use to screw the transmitter onto your dog's existing collar, but my dog broke 2 of those clips giving chase.
When the DC30 came out it was a major improvement. Garmin realized that the heavy transmitter would sag down where the dog tags hang, so they put it there intentionally instead of trying to force it on top.
The passive antenna in the original unit was replaced with an active amplified gps antenna sewn into the collar facing the sky. A small thin cable is hidden in the collar to carry the gps signal down to the transmitter below.
Finally, the transmit antenna was redesigned for vhf frequencies and realizes 1dB more gain over the previous transmitter - not alot but still an improvement.
In short, the DC 30 makes the astro a real dog tracker. I bought the collar separately and was immediately impressed. No longer did I have to scrape dog hair from the velcro on their earlier design!

National Geographic TOPO Arizona Map CD-ROM (Windows) Review

(More customer reviews)I live in Idaho, and actually, really, go into the wilderness. The level of detail provided by garmin's u.s. topo offering is honestly not sufficient for accurately setting waypoints. National Geographic's state series is indeed sufficient (in fact it's the best for Idaho). Not to be cruel, but being able to download inadequately detailed map source is not nearly as important as being able to download truly accurate waypoints. Buying both packages would obviously be the best solution, but really you can set up all the detail you need (for getting in & out) using just national geographic (whereas you can't with garmin's u.s. topo stuff).
Critical note: I strongly recommend not carrying *just* electronic maps if you really, truly, go into wilderness. Electronic toys aren't foolproof - they break through no fault of your own, they get dropped, can get destroyed if you fall, etc. Paper maps should *also* be carried - ideally ones printed out just for your current trip.
The garmin hardware itself is truly impressive. Their mapsource topo offerings, on the other hand, need a lot of work. It's as if the people who did them never visited the U.S., and/or never really went into many of the U.S.'s real wilderness areas.

Garmin Suction-Cup Mount For nuvi 850/880 010-10987-02 Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased a Garmin nuvi 880 GPS recently and received this mounting kit. It includes the suction cup mount, a cradle to mount the GPS onto, and a dashboard disk. The suction cup mount works very well, holding the unit securely. I had no problems mounting it to the windshield of my car. The end of it has a ball which the cradle snaps onto and allows the cradle, and GPS mounted to it, to swivel, much like a rear view mirror, so you can adjust it for best viewing. The right side of the cradle has a socket into which the MSN Direct Receiver, which I received with the GPS, plugs into. The other end of the MSN Direct Receiver plugs into the car's accessories socket (or cigarette lighter, if you will) keeping the rechargeable battery in the GPS charged. The dashboard disk has a very sticky pad on one side so it can be stuck to the dashboard. The other side is a smooth surface to which the suction cup mount can be mounted if mounting it to a windshield is not allowable. I've had no need for it so it remains stored until I do have a need for it. Because I have 2 cars I needed a second kit so I wouldn't have to transfer the mount between cars. I wanted each car to have its own mount so I could easily transfer the GPS from one car to the other. I ordered it through Amazon.com at a good price, and it works just as well.

This new GPS is so sleek and does everything and fits in my pocket. The Expresso has my local golf course imaged perfectly with the overview option.
