Rand McNally Intelliroute TND 500 5-Inch Portable Truck GPS Navigator Review

Ok I will try to be brief. First you must run the update or you will be annoyed with it. It has some major flaws right out of the box but they are fixed with the first update. It tracks all of your miles in every state that you drive in and then you can have them displayed by date for fuel taxes that's why I bought it, and so far that has worked correctly. The gps works well but the maps get a little shaky in smaller towns and it will direct you down some tight roads. some times I have found it takes me past the easy on/off entrance to a plant and then has me making tight turns and driving on roads through town only to find there was a huge road that went straight to the entrance. But again I think RandMc will fix these issues in later updates. I have been really glad that i had the GPs unit a bunch of times it got me out of some crazy situations and I generally trust the unit now so I do recomend it, maybe wait a while for a price drop though if you already have a gps.

TeleType 710060 WorldNav Truck Routing 7 Inch Portable GPS Unit Review

TeleType 710060 WorldNav Truck Routing 7 Inch Portable GPS Unit

There are a couple of things that I wish were different about this device. First of all, during the day, it's really hard to view the screen because of glare from the sun. The manufacturer recommended purchasing something from Best Buy or wherever that would go around it like a "visor". Also, it doesn't give much notice before you have to take an exit. I was already on an exit one time when the automated voice told me to take the exit. This could have been from the reason below.
The first time I used it, it worked fine. The second time I used it, it kept stalling in the "route directions" mode. I called the manufacturer and they are sending me another SD card (the card that has all of the currect mapping info. that you insert into the GPS). They said that they had gotten a bad "batch" of the cards and that the new ones should work fine. Keep this in mind if you get one that has problems. Also, keep ALL of the warranty/manual, etc. paperwork in case you need to return it. You can't return it wouthout those.

I purchased this product for my boyfriends new job driving truck. He can't even get the navigator to get him to an address that is 10 years old. I went on line to update the card and they wanted me to pay $15.00 for shipping of the updated card. I am very dissapointed and I will never purchase anything from Amazon again. Refurbished should not mean 10 years outdated.
A very dissapointed customer.

Cobra GPSM 7700 Pro 7-Inch Widescreen Portable Truck GPS Navigator Review

Cobra GPSM 7700 Pro 7-Inch Widescreen Portable Truck GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

I bought this unit for to use primarily in a truck because of the large 7" screen. Right off the bat, I was disappointed because the screen resolution is very poor. While driving, as roads on the screen get larger, the poor resolution makes them blocky and jumpy. Honestly, I haven't seen graphics this poor since I upgrade my PC from CGA to EGA! My first thought was, Why doesn't the screen look as clear as it does in all the advertising pictures, and Why don't the colors match the nice crisp green that's shown Cobra's web site and elsewhere? So I called Cobra's tech support number, and was told that the product pictures on the web site and the product box and virtually everywhere else where only "artists concepts" and not pictures of the actual product! How's that for truth in advertising! Although the multi-stop trip feature is good (it does show both the mileage to the next stop as well as the total trip mileage) there is no way to sort or group your locations. If you've got a lot of locations inputted and you want to find one at the end of the alphabet, you've got to scroll through the whole alphabet to get there. May not be a big deal to some, but it is annoying. Here's the worst thing about the unit, and the thing that made me finally get rid of it... you CAN NOT zoom in or out while in navigation mode. The ONLY way to change the zoom level is to leave the navigation screen, go to the set-up screen, change the zoom setting, save your changes, AND THEN SHUT THE UNIT OF AND TURN IT BACK ON! Totally unacceptable! I like to keep the unit zoom out so I can see intersections and ramps coming up a mile or two away while on the highway, and then zoom in down to city block level when in the city or a more urban area. I've got two other units, a SONY for the car and now a Rand McNally TND-500 for the truck and this is a standard feature on both units. Bottom line... unless your virtually blind, stay away from this unit (and if your eyesight is that bad, you probably shouldn't be driving anyway.)

Well as one of the first to get this I figured I'd give a review. The screen is great. It's pretty clear and seems tough enough not to need a screen protector. The plastic that was on the screen out-of-the-box left glue residue which was a pain to remove. It comes with a stylus that works great but navigating around with your finger is easy and works just fine. I usually just have to tap it with the back of my finger. When you get it, charge it for a few hours before you use it at all. I'm not sure if my over sized good laptop even was charging it. So use the wall outlet. It comes with nice cables for both wall outlet and 12 volt, as well as a good usb cable. The supplied mount is excellent and easy to use. No tools required. The screen part snaps into another flat part on the mount and you have to make sure it's clicked in all the way or it will drop out.. AFTER IT IS FULLY CHARGED, plug it in the pc and get your first free lifetime update. The software loads fine and tries to start up each time you use the computer. I stopped that and made a shortcut to start it myself. There are no options I saw to disable it from auto starting... I used ccleaner/tools/startup to disable it. The program DOES use a lot of resources when running, but you only need to update once in a while.
My first drive with it was Tampa to El Paso. It saves my height, width, weight and hazmat class. I was hauling hazmat. It gave a killer route that would have saved time but I had to alter it for the company fuel stops and routes. It tells you everything you need to know. Where travel centers are and what they have, scales and weigh stations and much more which can all be symbols on the map if you wish. YAY now i don't have to buy an iphone. Some stuff in the manual says parts are for future use so I'm guessing the updates are going to give even more. You can manually adjust the zoom. The automatic screen zooming works great. One time it was dark and cloudy with a cool looking sky and I looked at my screen and saw the exact same thing as I approached a ramp. You can save all your addresses and stops and put notes in them for phone numbers and gate codes etc. Then make groups (folders) for your addresses so you can find them even quicker. I sat there for 9 hours like a jerk and typed in all the company terminals and drop yards. It was fun. I'm saving each new stop now with notes too.
Once the GPS kinda got confused and mixed up my current rout with a completed one. It may have been my fault but I don't think so. I just restarted it real quick and it worked fine again.
I also used it in my car. It's easy to switch between truck and car mode. I drive a medium large car and the 7 inch unit was a bit to big and did obstruct my view a little.
The voice is fine and easy to adjust. The thing is nice and it works good. The traffic and road updates for life. I don't have to use internet or buy a netbook (with gps) and software... I'm happy I got it. I don't get lost anymore.
I like the TND 700. I'd just like to tell Rand Mcnally that since we spent as much on this as for a laptop, please make this the best and keep updates and innovations coming to us for the next few years at least. I'm kinda expecting you to make the software on the unit and on the TND DOCK (pc software) a bit better. I'd also like to be able to set up routes INTERSTATE to INTERSTATE to INTERSTATE to FINAL in order to comply with company route solutions. Sometimes we can't take all those better routes the unit suggests. You can make this worthy of five stars with just a little more effort. Well, I gotta haul A$$. Joe

Not always the best routes, but never terrible. I love the feature where I can set the height of my truck and it will take me the right way. Great in New York City where I can't remember the height of every bridge or tunnel. Big screen and very functional windshield attachment. It adjusts to many different positions so I can stick it to the windshield and rest it on the dashboard. That way the large heavy unit does not fall off. It would be perfect if I could enter my odometer reading and it could record my mileages for trip reports. Still excellent.

Garmin nuvi 465/465T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Trucking GPS Navigator Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying my review is just like others its my opinion! Myself ive been using Garmin GPS systems for 3 years plus. I own a garmin nuvi 660 and me buying the 465t was based on my experience with the 660 no cons if you ask me!
The first thing i noticed about the garmin was the light weight not bulky ,very sleek looking which is a plus in my book. Before going on the road with it i did the necessary updates to the 2010 north America 2.0 takes a while but is expected. The easiest way for the maps is the SD card just stick in and you are good to go will do that in future as i did this with my 660. Ive heard alot of complaints about the volume if you have a radio and CB going then no you will not hear it! The screen is big enough if your vision isn't awful. As far as sending on wrong routes Ive not experienced this problem its pretty accurate. I myself use mcnally my gps and sometimes google maps to compare. Thats the smart way of travel but i did do some runs where i solely used the 465t and had no problems. The truck specific features are nice and was nice to see you can switch back to car mode! So this isn't just a big truck GPS its an all around GPS. The detail of the maps is very good i was also worried when i seen it was a internal attena however it picks up 4 bars most the time it is 5 unless bad weather but never had a reception problem. If you have never used a GPS garmin is by far the easiest to pick up and use. But realize GPS aren't fool proof so use with caution . But hands down the 465t is for any trucker that needs that extra help. Hope i helped anyone debating on buying this product. UPDATE.... Garmin has released firmware updates that fixed some bugs people where reporting! Also the 2010 version 3.0 maps was released and it has proved to fix some bad mapping in a few areas ive noticed! Hands down im still very pleased with the unit and i know with time it will only get better because in the 2 months ive owned they have fixed alot of bugs. So i hope i help someone make a sound decision on this unit. Its by far the best unit for truckers!
