Lexerd - Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT Z3 TrueVue Anti-glare In-Dash Screen Protector Review

Lexerd - Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT Z3 TrueVue Anti-glare In-Dash Screen Protector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The super shiny screen of the Z110BT and angle of my dash causes me to get really bad glare through my rear window. The deck has the ability to tilt the screen up, which helps a little sometimes, but not enough to be useful. I had the rear window tinted, but the glare was still bad. I couldn't see the screen at all during the day unless I held my hand up to block the light. After installing this screen, I can see a marked difference. It doesn't eliminate the glare, but it does help enough that I can barely see the screen at least.
I've installed a number of protective screens on various products and this one was the easiest I've done yet. I think that's due to the thickness of the material. I started on the right side, peeled back a little of the backing, lined up the corners, then smoothed it to the left with a credit card as I continued peeling. I had to start over once, but got it on the 2nd try.
I had a little bit of trouble with tiny bubbles, but they worked out with the credit card pretty easily.
As for functionality, I don't notice any difference in response to my touching the screen. It's still sensitive and accurate.
Overall, it doesn't reduce the glare as much as I'd hoped, but it does make a difference and is still worth the money. I'd rather have it than not!

I'm currently waiting for a new Pioneer HU to be released so I haven't gotten a chance to install the kit yet. However for those of you who were wondering, the statement "Factory style texture" is false. It's black and NOT textured, so won't really precisely match the interior of a Prius which is dark gray and textured.

Power Acoustik PTID-7350NRBT 6.95-Inch In-Dash Widescreen TFT/LCD Monitor with DVD
Average Reviews:

Pros: Large, motorized screen, has all the features you find in higher end units.
Cons: Screens and displays are very blocky and unattractive. Large blocks of text get in the way of what you're trying to see. Nothing is intuitive except setting stations. Sends you to subscreens for everything, even simple tasks like changing tracks.Summary: The Power Acoustik gives you a lot of features for the money. However the buyer should be aware that you're getting what you pay for here. It definitely does everything it says (if you're lucky. I had problems with 2 units). It's how it does it that bother me. Yes you get a big screen, but it's one of the ugliest displays I've seen. Yes, it's touch screen, but you have to touch it a LOT to do the simplest thing. For example if you're listening to a cd and simply want to go to the next track, you'll have to touch the screen, which in turn brings up a series of boxes with text. Aside from the fact that these boxes are huge and ugly and block most of what you're trying to see in the first place, it's very clunky and distracting when in most higher end unit you can just touch the track you want on the screen.
When listening to a dvr cdr full of music, the unit gets Kudos for even being able to play it. But it takes about 30 seconds for it to load before you hear any music at all. And you'll have to do that every single time you turn the key off, even for a second. Imagine a day of running errands. While you're waiting on the cd to load, all other functions are inoperable, so you can't even switch to the radio while you wait.
When you have a cd full of mp3 files loaded you'll get a split screen with the album title on the left and the track listings on the right. Nice. But again, instead of simply touching the track or title listing you want, when you touch the screen you get those big blocky text things. Then you must touch the "Left" or "right" button. Once you get to the side of the screen you want you must painstakingly toggle up and down to the title you want by repeatedly touching huge blocks printed with the words "up" and "down". Once you finally have what you want highlighted you still have to touch the big huge "enter" block to make it play, then "exit" to get all that crap off the screen.
Keep in mind that all this stuff appears over the top of the listings your trying to see.
When you compare that to say, a Pioneer unit where you simply touch your finger on the screen and drag it down to move the list of songs up and down, then touch the one you want....you start to understand why they cost more. And you wonder if it's worth the extra money. In my case, absolutely. This unit has all of the features of the Pioneer I was looking at, a bigger screen than the one I was looking at and even an sd drive that the pioneer unit didn't have. But in hindsight I would gladly pay $100-$200 more for a double din that just works more intuitively and looks better doing it (the sd drive in the one I have, a replacement unit, doesn't work by the way).

The Navteq Traffic Tuner warns you of impending traffic when you start braking! It doesn't give you any advanced warning of traffic until you can see the red tail lights of the cars directly in front of you. In addition, the audible warning will pop on and warn you "traffic ahead" when there are only a hanful of cars blowing down the highway at 70+ MPH. Save your money and don't purchase this product.

nüvi 765T 4.3" GPS Navigator - North America Review

nüvi 765T 4.3 GPS Navigator - North America
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This GPS has been around the block for a little while. What hasn't been around the block for a while is the 4.0 software update for this GPS which came out spring 2010. This major software update resolves tons of bugs and issues i was originally having with my 765T. The inaccurate touch screen and near impossibility to type accurately on the keyboard has been resolved with the 4.0 update. The 4.0 update has also resolved an issue where searching for POI's takes MUCH longer than should be expected. Overall, the 4.0 update makes this GPS a SOLID and WELL ROUNDED device. In my opinion, this GPS is fantastic! It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the latest and greatest models but for me it does one thing, which is what i bought it for, and it does it very well and that's navigation and re-routing. If i wanted a computer on my dashboard i would use my iPhone, but i don't. I just wanted a simple, easy to use, and reliable GPS device that would get me from point a-b or from point a to b to c without a hassle and do so with the smartest routes available, which the 765T has been doing. THe traffic feature has worked flawlessly for me after the 4.0 update as well as the update to the 2011 maps. I never question the GPS and always get to the destination within 5 minutes of the arrival time. THe bluetooth and FM transmitter are worthless features to me since the underpowered FM transmitter is basically useless and i don't need bluetooth on my GPS to talk hands free because i use a bluetooth headset with my mobile phone. I did pair my iPhone with the 765T and it worked flawlessly. The 765T automatically imported my phones contacts and gave them to me in a nice touch screen accessible list so that i could just touch to dial a number. It definately works, and works well but it's a feature i will rarely, if ever use. Overall, i have almost no complaints with this GPS. I had a couple of gripes before the 4.0 update but the 4.0 update and the latest version of the maps,2011, have given me a rock solid, bullet proof GPS that i have no worries about relying on when i'm on the road. I would highly recommend this GPS, especially with the free traffic, to anyone looking for a BASIC GPS, with excellent satellite acquisition, fast re-routing, ad-supported yet not intrusive traffic updates, and an easy to use non complicated interface. Just make sure to UPDATE TO THE LATEST 4.0 SOFTWARE FOR THE MOST RELIABLE AND ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS GPS and if you can also update the maps to 2011 and this thing will be rock solid for you like it is for me for years to come.

Jensen VM9223 7-inch Touch Screen Double Din MultiMedia Receiver Review

Jensen VM9223 7-inch Touch Screen Double Din MultiMedia Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Good item if your wanting a touchscreen double din thats for a reasonable price. If your looking for navigational/blue tooth/or IPhone/ITouch capable look else where. You have to add the navigational component which ranges from 180-230. The blue tooth component ranges from 45-75, also its not compatible with the IPhone or ITouch as far as the USB port. So keep this in mind if your really interested in this feature(you can use the auxillary output that comes with the unit into your IPhone/ITouch, but that all. It doesn't not recongize the USB port from the IPhone). Otherwise good product for price.

Metra 99-3010S Dash Kit for Chevrolet Camaro 2010 (Silver) Review

Metra 99-3010S Dash Kit for Chevrolet Camaro 2010 (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This kit works if you want a double DIN in your 2010+ Camaro dash.
Pros:
-Integration is there, no need for steering modules, etc. Just get an antenna adapter.
-Buttons are actually decent quality, easy touch.
-Can change LCD color to make it match car or HU lighting.
-Proper radio that Chevy should have put in, I now have nav, movies, etc. in my dash!
-Amazon price on this is great!
Cons:
-Manual is wrong on dash cut, need more room for the wiring, and leave the bolted part there.
-My unit cam with hairline scratches from the factory, and a molding cut right on the LCD.
-Can't change button color as far as I can tell, and it doesn't match the Camaro
-Light leak from LCD, had to cover
-Chimes and turn signal sound cheesy, I removed cap to get rid of it.
-IMO the DD unit would look a lot better if it weren't so recessed.
Overall, this is pretty much your only choice for a double-din for your 2010+ Camaro, and it does do the job. Could be better though.

Kenwood Excelon KVT-696 DVD Receiver
Average Reviews:

It's everything that's advertised. Connectivity is great (when the XM Radio isn't stuck "checking" forever). The main problem is the user interface looks like something from the '90's. You can't even see the entire names of songs because only 16 characters are displayed. It's jagged and ugly. For such a high-tech product (and market) I'm kinda shocked that the interface is so pathetic. Take a cue from the iPod (or maybe more realistically Android) and make it pretty and easy to use. The interface essentially hasn't changed at all in the last several years through several product revisions. I also used the KVT-512 and it was nearly identical. This is not good.

this is one of the nicest dvd nav decks that i have owned. I had the pioneer unit for about 3 months and that deck was slow the sound quality was weak and the interface was stupid. The Eclipse makes there nav for toyota so you know your getting top of the line NAV. The Eclipse also has 5volt pre outs at 55 ohms not 4 volts at 300 ohms like most high end decks
this deck starts up super fast even with a huge ipod connected to it
the nav is fast
the interface is clean
i love this deck

JENSEN VM9324 Nav-Ready 6.2-Inch Double-DIN Multimedia Receiver with HD Radio Review

JENSEN VM9324 Nav-Ready 6.2-Inch Double-DIN Multimedia Receiver with HD Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just purchased and installed this Jensen in dash DVD player and I am satisfied.
I also purchased the bluetooth adapter.
I have a 2001 honda accord, the fit is not so good, but was manageable. The mounting screws did not line up perfectly but was doable. The customizable trim ring was a plus but take care cutting it! If you get this installed by someone else make sure they do a good job or it will look like crap! I got mine to look nice by cutting the trim ring VERY carefully.
I have stock speakers, but the sound quality is decent, and is an improvement over the stock CD changer.
The menu controls are simple and intuitive, sound quality on the Bluetooth is good, no problems on the other end.
Haven't tried the sd card or usb, but should work fine with my HTC eris.
For a double din touchscreen for less than $300 this is a good deal. If you want Navigation you have to spend another $200. I haven't yet.
P.S. don't forget to remove the two shipping screws on the top or discs will not load.

Power Acoustik PAVN-7210 6.5-Inch Touch Screen In-Dash Navigation System with AM/FM Radio and DVD Player
Average Reviews:

I purchased my PAVN-7210 almost a year ago and I've been disappointed. It did not come with a user's manual, so I contacted the company and they emailed me a digital. I can not get the screen to auto-dim as is one of their advertised features. The lower half of the screen is darker than the top, making it hard to read the lower half. The equilizer feature is terrible. It has no clock on the radio display, although there is one on the Navteq GPS system - but if you are not using it, you do not have a clock where one is typically provided on most radios. It's not like there is no room. The display screen is quite large, but the use of it is pathetic and it is so boring. In a dark car, you can not see the radio buttons since they are not illuminated in any way. The eject button does not open the unit all the way to access the CD/DVD slot. You have to manually assist the unit to open and close. The CD unit does not work. I am currently trying to work with the company on this. My call to Power Acoustiks results in long phone waits for "the Tech" (I guess they only have one). So far, his suggestion to press the reset button has failed to fix the problem. I like the Navteq GPS alright, except that it is not integrated well with the radio. When the GPS unit is on, you can not use the preset radio stations as they are part of the radio screen and do not show up when the GPS is on. Also, the GPS interupts your music/talk stations when giving directions verbally. You can not turn off the verbals (you can mute them, but your radio music/talk will still mute-out when the GPS would be giving driving directions). Overall, this unit has been a disappointment and I would not recommend it. I doubt that I will ever purchase another Power Acoustik product after having this unit.

Dont be afraid of the name Valor. They make top of the line equipment at a very reasonable price. This unit does it all and has a very friendly interface. Perhaps the biggest selling point is all the accessories it comes with. It comes with an ipod cable, nav dvd, a 2 gb card to download updates, 2 remotes and also a very "mouse" that allows you to change station/songs with a mouse scroll wheel as well as volume. Pretty much everything in the unit you can fully customize. The nav is very accurate and has a lot more points of interest than i ever expected. Sound quality is great with plenty of equalizer options. Bluetooth is a great function- i guess you dont always sound incredibly clear on the other end but no real complaints. If youre in the market for a multimedia system to handle everything you need- look no further. I had looked at pioneers and jensens and the extras you needed to buy were just too much. This is BY FAR the best bang for the buck. Dont hesistate because you want to buy a name brand. Youll end up with a better unit and only spend half the money.

Panasonic Strada 7-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator Review

Panasonic Strada 7-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this Unit WAY before any of the previous review does, so I already know how this unit works inside out.
yes it has the problem that previous reviewers say but, should we even call those *problems* ? I mean, some of the things could be easily fixed with a simple firmware update. This is Panasonic's first attempt to enter the US's In dash Navigation market. They have great Units in Japan, but I guess Panasonic Japan does not share information with their USA side. So they have to create this from scratch.
Let me list what this unit can do/cant do.
-It can Play MP3 on CD-R/RW, but it cannot read MP3 on DVD+R/RW/-R/-RW.
-It seems that it does not like bad quality CD-R, my friend's cheap CD-R having mad issue with this unit. but mine plays just fine. Well, we should all get quality stuff isnt it ?
-It takes a lot longer, sometimes failed to read DVD-R/RW disc.
-It's DVD playback is Region locked to Region 1, but is not hard to overcome that problem (I think its illegal to say it here)
-Map is based on Navteq's 2005 data, yes you got that right, unit that's out in 2007 still using 2005's map data(maybe because its cheaper, who knows), because I ran into couple of roads that has been changed, one even changed from 2 way into 1 way, almost got me killed. So you better MAKE SURE that you're in the right side of the road.
-Remember to select your route preference before you start your guide. because by default, it does not allow Highway, does not allow tolls, does not allow anything. that means, all local if possible. That might be cool for some people, but I didnt know about it the first time I use it, because my other Unit has the Allow toll and Allow highway option enabled by default. So I ended up spending like 3 hours on something that I suppose to be there in 1 and 1/2 hour.
-The route guidance is kind of funny, sometimes the shortest route that it shows does NOT mean its really the shortest. So if you know that you're already going the shortest route, do NOT listen to the unit.
-It plays back MP3 fine, quality is ok.
-CD Play back is fine, plays original disc no problem, if you want to use a backup, you better make sure the cd-R quality is good.
-You CANNOT record your inserted CD into the HDD. I have no idea what Panasonic is thinking on this one, because as far as I know, the map data used about 10GB of space, that means, in the other words, about 20GB of disc space is there to collecting dust. Maybe a future update will resolve this. who knows.
-HDD unit runs really fast, it takes less than 1 second to get the route out, by default, it shows you 3 routes.
-This unit runs really hot, yes it has a fan behind but ... I would suggest you to turn the screen off if its not in use. it reduce the heat by maybe 30% (rough estimate)
-Screen is big enough, a bit bigger than Pioneer's 7" unit. and the screen is really clear, tried a lot of DVDs on it very good picture quality.
-Fast startup time, about 10 seconds or so.
-Oh yes, did I say the map is not very up to date? Maybe Panasoinc wants to get more money out from us. Anyway, the map data is FAR FROM complete. I cannot find some of the address at all, when I can just do a google search and it pops up right away.
-The way to enter address is kind of funky, you have to enter the way THEY want you to enter, for example, if you want to go 123 Avenue, there're couple of "possbilities", it could be 123th AVE, it could be 123 th AVENUE, 123th AVENUE, 123 AVE, or 123 AVENUE. Keep that in mind.
I still have more to say, but I'll leave those alone.
Is this a good unit ? I think so, if you're looking for fastest and cheapest price HDD unit that *works*, this is a unit for you. but you BETTER MAKE SURE, you try them out first at a store or something.
Im happy with this unit, hey I mean for couple hundred bucks, you get a HDD NAV with dvd playback ? My father's brand NEW CX-7 with all options loaded, all he got was a DVD navigation that cant even play DVD-videos!
Im also 100% sure that Panasonic will update this unit to bring more features out. So dont worry too much about it. Couple hundred bucks only, get it !
