Garmin 010-11031-00 Colorado Series Marine Mount Review

I was looking for a way to mount my Oregon GPS to the dash of my truck while out Geocaching, I also wanted a permanent mount, this mount fit the bill. The mating area on the back of the mount were it connects with the GPS is somewhat tight, but I believe this is the way it was designed, being a marine mount. For my needs I wanted the GPS to be easily removed, so I took 2 small sized flat files, a course and a fine file, then removed small amounts of material from the slide area of the mount until the two mated smoothly. Now while Geocaching jumping in and out of my vehicle, i can dismount the unit with ease. Even thou the GPS now slides easy in and out it will still not fall out of the mount on its own, there is a catch at the bottom of the mount that prevents this from happening. I choose this mount because I wasn't planing to hook the unit up to a power cable, I run the GPS from the batteries in the unit. If you need power from your car battery then check out the other mounts available, or buy the auto power cable for your GPS.

Garmin Vehicle power cable Review

This vehicle power cord is for the Oregon and Colorado models. I got it for my Oregon 400T. It is fine except for the 90 degree angle of the plugin to the GPS. When plugged in to the GPS the cord faces forward toward you, so the cord is in front (at the bottom) of the GPS when you are using it. Why didn't Garmin make a straight connector so the cord points down, or a 90 degree plug that positions the cord to the rear of the GPS? Do they know something I don't? Maybe a car mount device requires it this way, or, as with the carry case they supply (read my review), the power cord was designed for the Colorado model and just applied to the Oregon model. The power cord is over 5 feet long.

Garmin Hard carrying case Review

Garmin Hard carrying case

This carry case for the Garmin Oregon GPS is too big and bulky to use. It looks like it was designed for the Colorado model and they just applied it to the Oregon model. Sure it works, but it is way to tall. It could be an inch shorter. The Oregon mounts inside via an attach strap and velcro which puts it at the far bottom end with an inch of dead space at the top. Also, it is way too thick (2.25"), as it has to be to accomodate that big attach clip and velcro inside. And the attach strap on the outside (velcro) to attach to your pants belt, well it is backwards. To use it, leave the velcro attached and unhook your belt from your pant loops and thread it through the case loop. The case does have a quality carabiner attached and is quality made. And it is made, so when you open the case, when it is on your belt, it opens 90 degrees with support straps so the GPS can be read at belt level without taking it out of the case. I will get a smaller beltloop type soft case like a Caselogic or similar to tot my Oregon with me.

ZAGG invisibleSHIELD GARCOL300S for Garmin Colorado 300 and 400 Series Screen (Clear) Review

I have a ZAGG Invisible Shield on my GPS and on my phone. It works really well and if you install it properly, it really is invisible. It can be a little tricky to install, but follow the directions and take your time. Once you get it on, it stays on! It doesn't come off like some of the other cheaper protectors. I don't worry about my devices at all with this shield on and it's nice to have that peace of mind. In fact, the shield has out-lived my devices. I've had to replace both my phone and GPS due to software glitches and had to buy a new invisible shield each time. I did find out that ZAGG will send you a free replacement once if something goes wrong with your device and you just have to pay for shipping. If you're looking for protection for your devices, look no further.
