(More customer reviews)I have an Oregon 550t. As it came, as I moved, the gps unit would come down about 4 inches and would be so annoying.
I just discovered that if you tie a knot further up the cord that the retraction force is higher. As I move now, the gps stays tight to the unit. YAY!!!
I just wish I discovered this before I spent more money on other alternatives that had the same problem, only worse! Now I'm trying the same solution on those. Maybe I'll end up with a bunch of usable retractable lanyards.
I geocache. This is perfect for me since I'm usually the navigator, not driver. When I get out, I pull it out far enough to read it and then when the cache is found, then I just let it go and it zips back. No setting the gps down and then accidently leaving it, etc.

(More customer reviews)I bought this to replace my existing mount that had the rubber suction ripped. It was pricey, I probably would have been wiser to purchase a new GPS unit. I actually had this sitting on my counter for 2 months before I attempted to put it together. Poor instructions on how to remove/attach the connector/power supply. This does have a better suction and better design than the original that came with my street pilot. All said and done...if had to do over..would have put my money towards a new GPS.

I Bought it 2 hours ago, and within 5 minutes of getting it out of the box I hard 90% of the features figured out. How?
TomTom has an on-screen tutorial on how to use it. It took me about 3 minutes to go through them all.
Also, the instruction booklet is the best I've seen in a gadget. Big pictures with minimal writing. Where most companies get this wrong, TomTom has one of the easiest to follow set-ups I've seen. The only thing you'll need the manual for is how to use the mount and turn the device on (2-second push on the power button).
Mounting it was a cinch-- and I can't believe how solidly the windshield mount holds the GPS to the windshield.
The user interface (ease of use) is amazing. Super simple... perfect for giving this to your tech-averse grandpa.
Leo Laporte (The Tech Guy on radio and TV) recommended the TomTom ONE 135 for a bargain priced GPS, which is why I bought this newer 140. I definitely agree with his verdict...

(More customer reviews)PROS: I got mine for $50 so can't complain. I like it for it's portable size and GPS nav works as expected. It's definitely worth the money.
CONS: I have two annoyances:
1) When you are in the countryside, you have to zoom in to see the smaller roads - even if there are no other roads around. This filtering is useful in cities when you got a lot of roads and makes sense to focus on bigger ones, but in countryside when you have few roads this is counterproductive.
2) The unit turns itself ON by itself. I charge it, turn it off to store. A few days later the unit comes on by itself and drains the battery down. This is a design flaw and i've seen many user complaints about this.
