(More customer reviews)I bought this so I could use my Desire as a GPS navigator in my van (Toyota Sienna). It works great for what it does, and the price was fantastic.
The phone holder is very snug and holds my phone nice and tight. Almost too tight at first, but I can slide the phone in and out fairly easily now that I've used it for a few weeks. The clips that hold onto the vent louvres hold very securely so the phone doesn't bounce around while driving. It rotates 360 degrees so I can have the phone in landscape mode, and all the cutouts in the holder are in the right place so I can have it charging while using the GPS.
Very satisfied with the purchase.

FIRST, THE VENT MOVES BACK AND FORTH (WITH THE TOM TOM) WHEN YOU TURN (LEFT/RIGHT). I SOLVED THIS PROBLEM BUT STICKING A PIECE OF PAPER IN THE VENT'S SIDE, LIKE PROPPING A DOOR OPEN. SECOND, THE "ALLIGATOR TYPE TEETH" DO NOT SECURE THE TOM TOM. NUMEROUS FALLS OUT OF THE VENT!

(More customer reviews)I bought this in March of 2009. Very disappointed with this product. Won't work with my 2004 Chevy Malibu or my 2002 Ford Focus. Adjustability is very limited. If your vents are just the right design, this product may work well for you, otherwise it is no good.
Here are some guidelines to consider if you are thinking about buying one of these:
1. Vent must have horizontal slots.
2. Vent must be almost perfectly vertical, so top slot in the vent sticks out about as far as the bottom slot - will not work if you have a curved dashboard and the vents follow that contour!
3. Vents must be fairly strong and stiff. The GPS unit is fairly heavy and puts a lot of force on the vent slots that this thing gets cliped to. If the vent is too wide, the vent will flex.
4. Seems like you need to have at least 4 horizontal slots in your vent so there is enough spread between the clips on the top and the support foot on the bottom. Otherwise you won't get a stable mounting.
The unit does have a ball-in-socket joint so you can twist or swivel the GPS a little bit, but the range of motion is fairly limited. Also, to lock it down once you have it adjusted, there is a ring you must twist. It takes a large amount of force to get it locked down and if you try to do this while it is clipped to your vent you may break your vent.
I plan to return mine.

(More customer reviews)The Tom Tom comes with the suction mount for the windshield. Tried that but is a real pain to take off when you stop. Don't want to leave the mount attached to the windshield so everyone knows you have a GPS in you car. After a few days I had to find another mount that was out of the way and easy to use. This vent mount is just the thing. I can take the GPS unit off and leave the mount attached to the vent. Can easily re-attach when I'm ready to go. It is just plastic but seems to hold up okay.

(More customer reviews)I bought this to mount an external XM radio in my car. My sister has one for her Garmin, and loves it, so I thought I'd try it myself. I've had it for only a few days, and it works, but one of the spring loaded clamps comes apart everytime I try to move the mount or simply remove the XM radio from the mount to hide it when parked. Spring goes flying, and more than once I thought I'd lost it for good...It does work without that spring (the other clamp has never come apart and is nice and tight), but then the whole thing flops a little. Also, the bracket itself is large and bulky, so I ended up removing the bracket and mounting the XM radio directly to the face of the mount - the back of the XM radio has a mounting peg that fits the notch on the mount face nice and tight. Works great, less bulk and less intrusive. Still have the spring problem though...Should have bought a vent mount specifically for XM radios. Wouldn't have ended up with a useless bracket, and possibly would have a better clamp design than the spring loaded one. The bracket itself seems nice and well made (I like the button used to control the width of the clamps), but it was too bulky for my situation. I'll keep this mount for now because so far it hasn't fallen off the vent (even with the one spring missing), but should that happen, I'll be in the market for something else (without springs!).

(More customer reviews)The Suction cup mount kept falling off the windshield so I was looking for a new mount. I ordered this unit and have been very pleased with the results. It easily slided over the louvers on the A/C outlet and securely holds the GPS unit. Its only down fall, and its not the fault of the mount, is that it ads weight to the louvers and pulls them down so you can't aim the louver up to direct the air up and away from you. It was designed to be used on horizitional(?) louvers but it will also work on vertical units as well. I hace bought two additional holders for my other cars.
