THE IDEA IS GREAT AND I BELIEVE THE INTENT WAS TO SECURE THE DARN TOM TOM. BUT THERE ARE TWO DESIGN FLAWS WITH THIS PRODUCT. FIRST, THE VENT MOVES BACK AND FORTH (WITH THE TOM TOM) WHEN YOU TURN (LEFT/RIGHT). I SOLVED THIS PROBLEM BUT STICKING A PIECE OF PAPER IN THE VENT'S SIDE, LIKE PROPPING A DOOR OPEN. SECOND, THE "ALLIGATOR TYPE TEETH" DO NOT SECURE THE TOM TOM. NUMEROUS FALLS OUT OF THE VENT!

I was looking for a way to mount my TomTom GO 720 to my motorcycle. I found the RAM web site and there you will find many mounting options. They have a cradle made specifically for the GO 720. I ride a Harley ElectraGlide so there is a lot of vibration that I was concerned about. This mount systems holds up very well even with hitting bumps, railroad tracks, etc. I rode about 3500 miles this summer with the GPS and never had a problem. My only concern is if the GO 720 can survive the amount of vibration it receives.

TomTom GO 740 Live 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable Live Internet Connected GPS Navigator Review

TomTom GO 740 Live 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable Live Internet Connected GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used multiple generations of the TomTom, and I have been a fan for a while. TomTom has always had the best user interface, but the rubber meets the road on directions and map accuracy, and here the new GO 740 Live shows solid improvement.
I drive in the Washington DC area, and occassionally commute up I-95 to New York and Long Island. In other words, it's traffic, traffic everywhere.
I depend on the TomTom GO 740 Live. The traffic updates are frequent, and almost always match what I am seeing in the real world. And IQ Routes are clearly having a positive impact on route selection. IQ Routes is the feature than anonymously gathers actual driving experiences from all TomTom users and then factors that history into its route computation. I suppose it works best in metro areas where there are many users.
Why this matters: Anyone who drives north out of DC knows that 16th Street is much, much better than Georgia Ave. They both appear as normal city streets, and though Georgia appears more direct, it has more untimed lights and more local traffic. Before IQ Routes, TomTom would suggest Georgia, and I would ignore it. Now, TomTom suggests 16th. With IQ Routes, TomTom is gathering the experience that only local drivers have.
After second-guessing TomTom for a few months, and usually being wrong, I now let it automatically route around traffic. Between the traffic reports and the IQ routes, I am getting the right routes and very accurate estimates of arrival times.
My previous TomTom was the 930, which reached its traffic service through a bluetooth connection to my phone. The connection was flaky (I blame Verizon, not TomTom.) and did not work if I was on a call. The new LIVE series has it's own cell circuitry built in. I stopped paying $15/month to Verizon for "broadband access connect", and I will gladly pay $10/month to TomTom for the LIVE services, which include traffic, fuel prices, speed cameras, Google searches, etc.
Final note: In addition to the LIVE services, I subscribe to TomTom's map update service, and I dock the unit to my PC often to download map corrections. I depend on my GPS, so these update services are a positive feature for me, and my review assumes use of all these services.

Maylong ML-500 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Maylong ML-500 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used GPS devices for a few years now. I have a handheld unit for hiking and geocaching, and a car unit. Both of these devices are by one of the Big Three GPS makers. My expectations for the Maylong ML-500 GPS were not high, as I believed a budget price and lack of name recognition signaled a lower quality unit.
Boy was I wrong.
Maylong ML-500:
PROS: excellent route selections, fast announcement of turns, Sleep mode, big screen, microSD expansion slot, slim depth, fast and strong satellite locking, Navteq map set.
CONS: confusing Date/Time selection, lackluster auto brightness adjustment, some unusual voice synthesis quirks. The cons are very minor.
The ML-500 GPS comes with a USB cable (it does charge via this cable, but would not with a different USB cable I tried, so be aware that the Maylong USB cable may be modified), a car charger, manual, and car suction mount/cradle. A stylus is included that slides into the bottom of the device. Very handy, as there is a touchscreen calibration function that will keep your screen aligned and this is best performed with the stylus. The box lists other accessories that are not included.
Input/output options include a USB port for charging (the car charger terminates in a USB mini-B connector), a microSD slot (for storing photos, music, ebooks, etc), a headphone connector, and reset button.
The ML-500 takes a few minutes to boot from a cold start. It is able to lock satellites indoors, which is always a noteworthy accomplishment. I locked 6 satellites in my living room. Now, I don't need to navigate anywhere while inside, but I do interpret this as a sign of a good quality of GPS chip.
The ML-500 has a big 5" LCD touchscreen. It is bright and sharp. The device is very thin, less than 1/2 in. in thickness. It has a good weighty feel, without being heavy.
The Main menu presents options for Media, Let's Go, and System.
Media provides utilities for viewing photos and videos, Ebook (.txt format), and Music.
System settings include Volume (also accessible from the main Navigation screen), Power (showing charge level), Backlight (increase/decrease, or auto adjust checkbox), Date Time, Language (vast number of languages offered), and System Info. (software versions, USB mode, and Calibration functions). Time can be obtained from the satellites, but my initial setting was off. Then, I set to the current time at my location. My arrival times were off, so I had to set to an hour earlier and then select the DST (Daylight Saving Time) checkbox. I'm still not sure that is all ok. Date/time setting is a bit muddled on this device.
Let's Go is your main navigation application. It takes a moment for this to load. Once loaded, you then can select to View Map (you can zoom out or in, drag the map to a new location, etc., very handy feature), Options (below), Let's Go (select again to start navigating), or Quit back to the Main menu.
Options include a toggle Walking/Vehicle mode, set Quick Nav category that lets you specify a type of destination you can get directions to from the Main navigation screen), Demo, Prompts (when the GPS verbally announces Speed Warning-sounds good but very annoying when on, Route Recalculation, Weak GPS Signal, GPS Not Found), and Spoken Names/Numbers/Both, Day/Night view (pleasant dark background for nighttime navigation), 2D/3D view, Map Browsing/GPS mode, Map Display options (select which icons appear on the Main navigation screen for quick toggles of various functions), GPS Info (very cool space-view of satellites locations and locks, altitude, and current long/lat coordinates), Select Map (different regions are loaded as needed), Units of Measure, Language, Time Settings, Look and Feel (skins [only 1 available], keyboard mode, day/night auto adjustment), Help (simple operating instructions and troubleshooting), and About (more software information and trademarks). There were no choices of different voices or car markers.
Some observations: Yes, there are 2 places to access time and language settings. I don't quite get this ... leads to some confusion. I found the auto adjust backlight to be disappointing as I transitioned from car to street. The screen was too dim to view easily at my original setting). I also found the Walking Mode to be less than useful ... as I arrived at my destination which the device announced, then had to find parking, then needed to be guided back to my destination, I switched to Walking mode and expected to be guided to it. I was not. I will need to investigate the use of this function further.
So how does the ML-500 work as a GPS? Simply, this is an excellent GPS unit. Compared to my Garmin 255WT, the Maylong announced turns more quickly, though it did not give long term directions (e.g., stay on this road for 10 miles). Recalculations were about the same in terms of the devices recovering from wrong turns. The Maylong chose more "major" highways for fastest route, and these were better selections in each case. Oddly, the Maylong tended to announce "St" as "Saint," however, this could be because the actual road name was followed by a W for West.
Totally coolest feature: when you press the Off button, you can choose Sleep or Turn Off. When you put the device to Sleep, it pretty much comes back on instantly to whatever screen you were on when you turned it off. Very handy, as the boot and application load times can take several minutes. Presumably, like with your computer, Sleep does consume power, so I would not choose it for long-term shutoffs, as you will likely come back to a dead battery.
As Maylong is something of a newer player, there is some question about receiving map updates. Any GPS should offer, at a minimum, one map update in the first year as a free support feature. This is competitive with other major players. Maylong should also consider a lifetime update option as well.
If you are in the market for a good value in a great performing GPS, you absolutely should consider Maylong. I found this unit to outperform a comparable Garmin GPS.

TomTom XXL 530-S 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator Review

TomTom XXL 530-S 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the TOMTOM XXL 530-S at Staples on Black Friday after Thanksgiving for $134.00 including tax.
I feel the unit is a great deal for the price.I tried to use the adhesive disk TOMTOM provides with the unit. The adhesive disk provided with the unit did not stick well. I then did research on monting devices. I first was told by TOMTOM to look into the [...], the Proclip init is not a good choice unless you want to spend an excessive amount of money to mount your device. The ProClip is also specific to your car model which is another joke. You get a different model car you need a new Proclip. I decided to purchase the Gilsson Universal Beanbag mount for $[...] from Amazon. I noticed it had a five star rating and the price was right. The center of the BeanBag mount has a shiney plexglass so the suction cup of your GPS will grip. The BeanBag can be placed on your dash, your seat, or in any open area in the car. The Bean Bag does not move on the dash or whereever you place it. Also, you are not sticking anything on your car. Also the Bean Bag is easily transportable, so your GPS can be used in all your cars. I placed mine in front of the gear shift where there is a recess storage area. Works Great. Obviously where you place the bean bag in a location that is best for your use is subjective.
The TOMTOM XXL530-S works great. The unit comes with a nice wide screen. The program reads out streets, interesections when needed, and has mulitple views. The unit will tell you how far you are from your destination when you are approaching and has a countdown on the unit. Therefore, it will announce you are 100 yards from your destination, then if you look at the display you can see the countdown meter. You do not have to look at your odometer. The unit also has a feature that can detect redlights that take pictures. I do not need this download option, but it is available. The unit has multiple sounds. You can download many voices free and comes preprogrammed with three voices. The loudness of the voice can be regulated. Most of the street names are clear, a few have been slightly distorted due to enunciation, although they are recognizable. The unit gives you advance notice of what lane to be in for an upcoming turn or exit and gives you ample warning to make the turn.
The unit also gives you a digital display of your speed. If you have a speedometer I guess you do not really need this feature. The unit also will tell you aloud your projected arrival time if for whatever reason there is a delay and the trip is longer than projected. You have the option of purchasing the software which will also notify you when there may be trafic jams and give you altermate routes. I have not used any of the extra features such as the alternate route program, but it is available.

I would recommend you download the software that allows you to upload your unit from the company's website as soon as you get the unit so you can download the latest map updates. You have to dowload the latest map software within the first 30 days of buying the unit. You also have the option of downloading different voices and additional features you may need. Some of the additonal voices are free of charge, and some there are a fee. If you want to download revised maps after your first 30 days I beleive there is a nominal fee.
Overall the unit works great. The display is a very good size. There is some breaking in time to entering in data to the unit however, the learning curve is fast. After you program the unit a couple of times you will master putting the information into the unit. The unit memorizes your previous trips which makes entering in repeat information a breeze. Also, the unit recognizes the first several letters of a city, state, or street. Therefore, one does not have to spell out every single word. The screen is big enough to easily touch the screen and program the unit. The screen is has just the right amount of sensitivity to the touch.
I read the one negative review for this unit and I could understand his concern about mounting the unit with the adhesive disk they provide, but I could not understand the negative review on the unit itself. For the money and the quality I feel it is a good unit. Prices for these units are going down. You may want to wait afer Christmas since I was able to get a better deal after a holiday.

TomTom XL 325 4.3-inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

TomTom XL 325 4.3-inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first ever GPS navigator (I've used them before, but this is the first one I've owned): I've been meaning to get one for awhile now, and this is exactly the sort of one I would have picked out!!
It's relatively inexpensive, comes pre-charged and is supremely easy to use, STRAIGHT OUT of the box, (which is impressive!): you just follow the simple on-screen instructions to set up the device for the first time, as well as to find local points of interest (restaurants, gas stations) or plug in directions of where you are going, and off you go! I particularly found it awesome that in the initial setup, you can choose not only the language, but also what language/voice to have it speak to you in: (I also believe you can download additional celebrity voices for a fee I think)...I set mine to the British woman, as I love British accents, and I find it hilarious & awesome: love it!!
My only and biggest complaint about this GPS device is that the spoken directions ONLY say things like 'turn left in 700 feet', 'turn left'...and I would like it to tell me 'turn left on main street'...while it speaks 'turn left' across the bottom of the screen is the street you are supposed to turn onto, but for the sake of safety in driving, I don't think it's smart to look away too much while driving, so I would MUCH prefer it would speak that out loud!
Other than my comment above, I absolutely love this GPS device! It is easy-to-use, easy to carry with (and not leave in the car), the satellite seems to work well everywhere I go (finding my location quickly): with full spoken aloud directions it would receive 5 stars, without it, only 4 stars, but I must say, I really love it!!

TomTom XL 350TM 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Lifetime Traffic & Maps Edition) Review

TomTom XL 350TM 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Lifetime Traffic and Maps Edition)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
****Update****
I changed my review of this GPS from five stars down to three stars for a few different reasons and I ended up taking the GPS unit back to the place I purchased it from (it was very hard to walk away from the $129 sale price) and purchased the TomTom XL340 TM.
The main reason I traded this unit in for a new one was the user interface. I completely understand that TomTom wants to create a simple user interface geared towards the 80% of people who want a simple and easy to understand GPS unit. On this, the XL 350 TM performs exceptionally well. However, if you want to really customize the GPS to do things for you, then you are out of luck because you cannot update very manypreferences in the unit. I like to tinker with the GPS unit and in the end I want ultimate control over what is on the screen and what information I can or cannot get. The 350 TM does not give you ANY leeway to set up the GPS in the exact way you want. If you see the words "Easy Menu" on the box and you like to have control over everything the GPS displays then the unit will not be for you. If you want simple and easy-to-understand-out-of-the-box performance, then this GPS will work fine.
The XL 340TM GPS uses the old menu system from TomTom. I ended up paying $60 more for this GPS but it was important to me to be able to customize the menu system. This unit also has lifetime maps and traffic and this was my main reason for buying a new GPS. Instead of two options on the main screen, I have ten. Under the preferences menu this unit lets me check seven different boxes under the Safety Preferences menu. Additionally there are two other sub-screens under this that let me set when I am driving on the wrong side of the road and to choose if I ever want the map display shut off. I can also change the information displayed on the status bar and on the 350 I could not. There was no compass function that I could see on the 350 that is available here. It also lets me set up different information on the Quick Menu preferences and this option was not available on the 350 at all. It also lets me check off about 15 different items under planning preferences including things like avoiding toll roads, avoiding ferries, plan routes by fastest times, shortest routes, avoiding freeways etc. Under Advanced Preferences it lets you select options like displaying street names, house numbers before street names, lane images etc. You can also prepare routes on this unit and also build an itinerary including waypoints.
I also sent an email to the TomTom support team asking if there was anyway I could get and use the old menu system they used and was told that is was not possible. The problem with this response? It took TomTom over a week to answer my question. That seems like a very long response time and is another reason I took one more star off of my rating.
Overall the 350 was a nice unit and easy to use, it simply did not allow me to customize the GPS like I wanted to.
*****Update over*****
I travel a lot for my job and have used an older model Mio GPS unit to get me to my destinations. The Mio worked fine for the most part, but the last time I went to a new city the maps were very old and out of date. I decided it was time to upgrade to a new GPS unit and researched Garmin and TomToms because they are the two biggest players in the market. In the end, the lifetime traffic and lifetime map upgrades pushed me towards the TomTom XL 350 TM, a model that just came out at the end of May 2010.
In my research for a new GPS it seems that people either liked Garmin or the TomTom because of the interface. People usually had a strong bias for one or the other. The interface did not matter to me as much as what I could get for my money. I seriously looked at the Garmin nuvi 780 because this is a top-of-the-line Garmin, albeit a discontinued model, and Amazon is selling it for 74% off the original price. For the money it seemed like a fantastic deal except for two things. This unit uses MSN Direct content for traffic and you have to pay a subscription fee after the trial period ends, and MSN is discontinuing this service at the beginning of 2011. This unit did not include lifetime updated maps, which is a big deal for someone buying a new GPS unit simply because the old one had maps in it that are getting obsolete.
Since lifetime maps were very important to me (without having to shell out $100 more for the upgrade) my choices were suddenly locked in on TomTom units. I researched their products and decided I was either going to get the XL 540 TM (the TM is lifetime traffic and maps) or the same unit but with a smaller screen size, the XL 340 TM. I decided I was going to go for the one with the 4.3" wide screen, the XL 340 TM, instead of the bigger 5" screen because I read that the 5" screen is cumbersome for the window mount to handle.
Well the best laid plans sometimes go astray because when I went into Best Buy they had the brand new XL 350 TM on sale for $169.99 when the regular price was $229.99. I bought the unit immediately beacuse I figured the unit was very similar if not an improvement over the XL 340 TM.
Here are my first impressions after using the TomTom XL 350 TM for two days.
1.The design is sleek with a crisp and clear screen. My old Mio looks like a clunky old refrigerator compared to the new TomTom.
2.I wish TomTom had an external memory card on these units. I have read people have had problem updating maps because they have run out of room on the unit. Since I read about it, I was expecting it, and ended up backing up my unit and then deleting the French and the Spanish language functions to free up space. This freed up about 30 mb on a 2 gb flash drive. TomTom could fix this issue by simply making the maps of Canada, the United States and Mexico separate. Anyway, the fix of deleting the French and Spanish speaking files worked well.
3.The instructions are very skimpy in the box. There are basically no instructions on how to set up and install the new software on the device. This was not a big deal for me because I researched the hell out of it, but for someone like my mom this would be a killer. I connected the device to my computer and found the setup program on the device and ran it.
4.When you first plug the unit into the computer it takes an hour and a half to download the new maps and the GPS fix software. After it downloads all the software it needs, then you install the TomTom Home software. This is not really installed on your machine, but rather it is an account set up on a web site and the software seems to reside there.
5.Once you install the Home software or set up an account, the icons in TomTom Home are very easy to understand and use. I performed a backup of my unit and then I deleted the Spanish and French language files from the unit. If TomTom would ever install Mexico, Canada and the United States separately then space would not be an issue because most sane people would never rent a car or drive in Mexico unless you lived there, and then if you did liver in Mexico you most likely would not need maps of Canada. This is a very small issue but one that could be fixed with minimal issues.
6.Once you perform the backup and delete you install the software upgrade to the TomTom. This did not take long at all, maybe 15 minutes.
7.The window unit is very different from the Mio. I like the looks of it because it looks elegant. It is a little awkward to use at first, but after you get used to it then it works as designed. My Mio had a linchpin system to hold the unit to the window unit and over time I lost the linchpin so the design there wasn't perfect. This design is like a hip joint, a ball in the socket, and although it moves stiff (I bet in order to keep the GPS unit still) it functions well and had no problems holding the unit on the window or dash. It is easy to unsnap the unit from the wondow mounting device so you can take the GPS unit with you instead of leaving it in the car.
8.The user interface on the GPS unit is simple and easy to use. It is very intuitive and when you fist turn it on there are pop-up balloons there to help guide you through the process. By playing around with it for a bit I became very adept at doing what I needed to get done for the GPS unit to function.
9.I like the graphics on this unit. The GPS fired up and found a signal within seconds (my old unit took up to a minute or so to lock onto a satellite). I typed in the address of where I wanted to go, it plotted a route for me, and I hit the done button to get the 3-D view map on the screen. From there it is easy because you follow the prompts. The section on the bottom of the screen tells you which way your next turn will be(left or right) and it tells you how far away from the turn you are at the moment. This unit is accurate to within 5 feet or so of where my car was so it would be very hard to miss a turn. My old unit was only locked in from about 20 yards, which caused problems sometimes when I was on a freeway and passed my exit going 70.
10.I have not been able to get lane assist to work yet (I only drove local routes). This is part of the reason I bought this unit. From the pictures on other reviews it looks great.
11.I have no clue on how the routing is compared to my old unit yet. I will get a better judge of this over time. I like it a lot so far.
12.The screen is absolutely bright enough to see in the daytime. The sound is loud enough to hear the spoken street names and directions.Overall I highly recommend this unit. If anything changes in the next few months I will come in and update my review.

The item worked great considering how basic it is. It's a pretty nice little GPS, without all the frills. However, 3 weeks after purchasing, it simply stopped working. It wouldn't turn on. I was in the middle of my route (i work in home health care), and was left with no idea where to go. So, i had to stop at the local Walmart and buy a TomTom.

TomTom GO 630 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) Review

TomTom GO 630 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Have owned this model for about a month now. Started with a Refurb, then eventually returned it and got a new one. The problem with the Refurb is, it comes with maps that are a year old, and refurbs don't include the New Map guarantee. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be a problem, BUT. There is a HUGE difference with what is on the refurbs and what is on a new updated one. One of the selling points of the Go 630 is Advanced lane guidance. A feature that more clearly shows you what lane you should be in. I found, through experience that the older maps have only a SMALL fraction of roads that support this, while the update adds MANY MANY more. With the old maps, it only came up ONCE in my travels, now it comes up in many more. This GREATLY enhances the usefulness of the device.
Other considerations: If you are buying this unit for the Bluetooth, look elsewhere. It is simply NOT reliable, and TomTom CS is useless. When it DOES connect to my phone, it repeated and randomly announces it is connected throughout your drive, and then, also randomly, it just sometimes decides that it is not going to connect. You get in your car, ready to drive, and boom, it just does not connect. Doesn't even try. Just says "can not connect to your phone" A call to CS, and they tell you that your phone isn't on their list, which is Baloney. That only means they haven't taken the time to test it. They have only a small handfull of tested phones. This allows them to get away with saying it's YOUR fault. I have found that I can restore BT functionality by re-syncing it to the Home software, but of course, this doesn't help you when you are sitting in your car ready to go somewhere and it decided not to work, or if you are away from home. Just pathetic. Bluetooth is pretty standard, there is NO excuse for it to be this flakey, and it's not on my Garmin.
The on-screen buttons on this unit are ridiculously small. In fact, dangerously so. Try and hit the correct one while driving and forget it. What's amazing is, this screen is bigger than my Garmin, yet the Garmin has easier to use buttons. TTS? hahahahaha. It is ATROCIOUS. Most streets are pronounced wrong, not even CLOSE. I will say the "IQ" routing is somewhat good. It has found some interesting routes I wouldn't have thought of that have been efficient. But, as with all GPS's, this is not consistant. Some routing is not so good. I have also found that sometimes when it gets a particular route in it's mind, it locks onto it, even when you have gone a completely different way. It keeps trying to take you back to its original intention, which can include and even LONGER route. You should also note that the display washes out in daylight, and this is made worse if you use the dash mount. The mounting arm is FAR to short to make sense, and it makes the unit angle upwards, into the light. I find it hard to beleive that this flaw wasn't obvious to the designers. A longer arm is all it would take. Duh! As for the resto of the display. Colors seem to change randomly, most of the info is in letters and numbers that are difficult to see without a magnifying glass, and the mapping is a bit cartoonish. Also missing is a warning tone before turns.
In summary, there are some nice features this unit has that other brands don't, like the Map Share and IQ routes, but also a lot of flaws. If you buy it, go for a new one, not a refurb, and if BT isn't a major need, go for the cheaper 340

TomTom XL 340TM 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Lifetime Traffic & Maps Edition) Review

TomTom XL 340TM 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Lifetime Traffic and Maps Edition)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
just received my new GPS today, plugged it into my mac, and installed tomtom's mac version of their home software. everything has worked well so far and the free map update installed fine. there are two main things that purchasers need to know:
1) space is very limited on the device. there is only 2 GB of internal flash memory and out of the box there was less than 50 MB free. the very first thing you should do is to delete voices in languages you don't use. this will free up a couple/three hundred MB. they can get backed up to your computer so you could always put them back in the future. once a bit of space is freed up you'll be able to update the device without issue. after removing spanish and french voices, running update which installed a new dave voice, and then installing the free map update i was left with 89 MB free. when i tried to run update before removing the voices, the unit warned me about lack of space and aborted without creating any further problems. maybe the mac version of home is more robust than the windows one in this respect.
2) the device only supports USB 1.1 transfers which max out at a bit over 1 MB/sec and can be slower. so doing a full backup or a map update will take quite a while (1-2 hours) and this is normal.
for me, those limitations are more than offset by the large, bright screen, text2speech capability, crowd-sourced map/route updates, and cheaper southern africa maps (we're moving there soon). especially given the cheap sale price i found. i will provide updates as i put unit through paces on cross-country trip and then intercontinental move.....
