(More customer reviews)It's not so bad that I'll send it back, but I wouldn't buy another one. There were three items in this package, so I'll discuss them separately:
First, the charger. It won't work in all vehicles. I discovered that there is a slight difference in the shape of a true cigarette lighter socket and the 12 volt round sockets most cars come with now. This charger works in the cigarette lighter of my GM pickup truck but not the 12 volt socket on the same vehicle. It won't work in either of the 12 volt power outlets in my Subaru. In constrast, the orginal charger for my GPS, the charger for my cell phone, and the charger for my mp3 player all work in the Subaru. The cord is shorter than the original cord which came with my device. Also, the cord plugs straight in instead of coming out at a right angle, as the original device cord did. The straight plug means I'd have to mount the suction cup an inch or so higher on the windshield. That, combined with the shorter cord, means that the cord was stretched across the controls to my in-dash CD player. Very annoying.
Next, the windshield mount. It's ok, but I don't love it. The clip attaching the gooseneck to the GPS kind of works with my Tomtom Go 630, but it's a Mickey Mouse arrangement of one not quite right adapter slid into another not quite right adapter. The swivel joint attaching the adapter to the gooseneck tightens and loosens with a screw. The plus side of this is that the joint isn't going to move once you tighten it down. The minus is that you can't adjust it one handed. The joint also doesn't have quite the amount of flexibility I'd like. The suction cup holding the gooseneck to the window awesome. It attaches with a flip lever- easy to attach and very secure. The gooseneck wasn't all that great. It's very stiff, which makes it hard to position. The joint attaching the gooseneck to the suction cup is easily strained, and the device will vibrate forever after once you've loosened it up.
Finally, the Micro SD reader. I haven't had cause to use it yet, so I've no idea if it actually works. The whole thing is barely larger than someone's thumbnail; It looks like someone chopped the end off a standard USB cable and turned it into a keychain.

(More customer reviews)I got this as a replacement for the original adapter that I left by accident in a rental car. It works and I like the coiled cable but that's about all I can say about it. Now for the things I don't like.
Foremost, the end that plugs into the outlet is very large and clumsy. I have a '06 Subaru Legacy and it interferes with my access to controls and dashboard. It is difficult to grab the gear shift when it's in park and the adapter is plugged in. I imagine that it would be more clumsy in some cars and less in others but I view this as a major design flaw. If I had known about this beforehand, I probably wouldn't have bought it.
The other design flaw is the little blue light on the charger that shows power is flowing. That seems like a nice feature but I don't think the folks who designed it thought it through well enough. The light is very bright for night driving and too distracting. Again, it might depend on the your access to the outlet but my light is almost pointed straight at the driver.
I do not recommend this product to other buyers. I miss the original charger!

(More customer reviews)This TomTom unit works well, screen is easy to understand, and using it is simple. I had a Magellan before, would NEVER buy one again. Magellan's customer Service is horrible, TomToms support is much better and their website allows you to upgrade sattelite locations on your unit, so if you turn it on while you're driving, it finds you in less than a minute. The Magellan takes 5 - 10 minutes in the same situation!
There are less points of interest on the TomTom, but that's not that important to me. Most of the time I have an address or I'm looking for a gas station or hotel, which are usually listed.

(More customer reviews)There are alot of reviews out there for navigation units with comparisons between units made by different manufacturers, most stating that one is better than the other, which I found to be of no use since I almost never had the unit they were comparing to. So I have written this review as a review of the TomTom 730 rather than a comparison.
(please note this is the FACTORY REFURBISHED moel of the 730)
The 730 was well packed, and had a little bit of charge right out of the box. It includes all of the accessories and most of the literature that a new model does, including the windshield mount, dash disk, car charger, instruction manual and CD. There were no cosmetic blemishes on the unit I got. Refurbished units come with a shorter warranty, but the price difference more than makes up for lost warranty time.
The unit did arrive with an old map and firmware revision. After installing TomTom Home and creating a profile, the software asked me if I wanted to update the unit, and installed the most recent 'North American Maps' pack (includes USA and Canada) and 8.30 firmware. The download and installation process took a whopping 1.5 hours to download and install over a wireless broadband connection. Choosing to accept Mapshare, an additional 11386 corrections were added. I did not have to enter any update codes or call TomTom to get the latest map update. Other maps were listed as available at additional cost, but they were for other countries that I did not need.
After updating the unit, I took the 730 on a few trips to see how well it works. I travel roughly 1000 miles a week for business and pleasure, all over Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia. I have had several Nav units over the last two months trying to find the right one for me, and I am impressed with this unit. There are some problems with the unit, which are a result of the limitation of Nav units in general, rather than specific to the 730. An example: Whitehurst and Canal st in DC run literally on top of each other. Where they start you have a choice to go up or down, whereas the 730 tells you to go straight. Both choices are straight, and reagrdless of which you pick, the 730 continues to navigate as if you were heading down Whitehurst.
The 'IQ Routing' feature is absolutely the most useful feature of the unit. Anyone who lives in the DC metro area(or any other huge population dense area)knows that certain roads simply aren't passable during certain times of the day. I have used this feature extensively, and although there is room for improvement, it has found me several new, faster ways to get to common destinations. This nav unit is also the only one I have tested that correctly finds the fastest way to my home from the interstate.
Advanced Lane Guidance is a nice feature, during my travels I see it about twice a day. It works well, but the image for the I270/495 lanes divide on the inner loop shows the wrong number of lanes leading off to the spur. Other lane divides are accurate, why not this one?
The voice recognition navigation aspect works okay, it does a good job of recognizing what city and/or street that I said, but the whole system is a bit akward since it is a combination of screen presses and voice prompts. Still, it works well if you are patient with it and learn its qwerks.
The bluetooth function does not work with my phone (I have a really lousy phone)so I cannot comment on that, the FM transmitter works well if you can find a free frequency. Playing music from the TomTom was neat, and navigation prompts do come through the music when they occur.
TomTom Home and the community support it provides is awesome. Other than Mapshare (which is awesome in and of itself) there are differnt icons, voice prompts(which you can record yourself with the 730), display screen, map colors, and other customizable features that help you personalize and enhance the unit.
In summary, I believe I have found the right unit for me. The is the best navigation device I have used yet, and at the refurbished price it is well worth purchasing. I hope you found this review helpful.

They have a cradle made specifically for the GO 720. I ride a Harley ElectraGlide so there is a lot of vibration that I was concerned about. This mount systems holds up very well even with hitting bumps, railroad tracks, etc. I rode about 3500 miles this summer with the GPS and never had a problem. My only concern is if the GO 720 can survive the amount of vibration it receives.

The mount is good and solid but the snap ring that holds my Tom Tom 540 XXL feels very loose. I have seen this mentioned in other review. I'm not sure if it's going to be an issue yet or not. Still, I would recommend this mount to anyone who is considering a solid, permanent mount in their vehicle. I did drill three holes in my dashboard and use the accompanying screws to secure the mount and GPS so you should consider this before deciding to purchase. Do you want to deface you car?

It snugly holds the unit face down on a soft surface and the hardness of case is great protection from damage and provides for easy storage in the glove compartment of my vehicle. I highly recommend this case as it provides superior protection against damage to your GO 740. The only drawback is there is no strap as described in the offer. I found however, that the strap really wasn't needed to carry the case as it is not bulky and easy to grasp.

(More customer reviews)The Tom Tom comes with the suction mount for the windshield. Tried that but is a real pain to take off when you stop. Don't want to leave the mount attached to the windshield so everyone knows you have a GPS in you car. After a few days I had to find another mount that was out of the way and easy to use. This vent mount is just the thing. I can take the GPS unit off and leave the mount attached to the vent. Can easily re-attach when I'm ready to go. It is just plastic but seems to hold up okay.

I have a mini-van and mounting the GPS on the windshield puts it in the sun and makes it hard to reach for operation or installation and removal. This takes care of that quite neatly. It is solidly built and the flexible arm and adjustable ball mount give you the ability to position the unit wherever you need it. The cup mount has a tightening wheel to lock the mount in the cup holder too. Finally, the part that actually attaches to the GPS is modular. You can get other mounts for other brands of GPS, so you're covered if you own more than one brand or upgrade in the future. All you'll need to buy is the end piece.
