Navman N40i NavPix 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

I've used it for a couple days now and couldn't be more please. I base my review against my previous GPS, TomTom Navigator 6 for PDA. Compared to It, the navman is much better. The interface is very simple to use (really, if you can't figure this out, you have issues). The maps show great detail and accuracy such as adjacent street names and house/street name of where you're currently driving by. So far, POI are accurate in the WashDC/Arlington/Fairfax area. Calculates/recalculates in a few seconds. Also acquires sat signal in 5 or less seconds of powering on.
It does not have text to speech but it does read out streets that have numbers such as "Route one twenty three" and "exit seventy one ahead". which is great for major streets and highways (tomtom just says exit right in 70yrds).
I like to give props to the Picture feature. Its more useful then what most reviews think. Its not just "a cool addition". For example, Have a traffic accident or on the road and see suspicious vehicle or incidents, just start hitting the camera button and it takes pictures very quickly continuously. Great for police and insurance purposes. Beats most cellphone cameras and is much quicker to use and inconspicuous) Who's gonna argue a pic with GPS coordinates on it! Resolution is good and clear in day and dawn, lens adjusts pretty well at night and to different light types (light bulbs etc).
You can also take a picture to tag the location of your regular digital camera pictures, then use services like Flickr, Mappr etc to have a cool map albums.
Also, navigating by selecting a picture is much easier then selecting it out of your favorites list. Bottom line, the camera is a nifty idea! I could careless to have an MP3 player on it (you prob already own an iPod or player of some sort), dictionary and all the other galore of useless half working features that others have and jack the price up over 500.00. Its a car navigation GPS, not a UMPC!
My only gripe is that the desktop software is currently not "FULLY" compatible with vista. I got it to work after trial/error. You need to uninstall Active Sync (Vista has its own version of this preinstalled). You need it to push updates (check navman site).
Navma, for future - VIDEO! why not? let us pop in a high capacity SD card and film away some nice 640x480 video clips! Cellphones can, you too!
This GPS does the job car navigation wise. Gets you places or out of places in your car, if thats what you need, get this one! If you walk, hike a lot, you're looking at an apple instead of an orange.
Navigate away!

I bought this Garmin for my senior daughter who is directionally challenged. We live in the woods of East Texas. Why would she need this before college? We recieved 8 inches of rain one night... all the back roads were flooded... tyhe Garmin got her safely home with roads she didn't know existed... great Product for the $$$$$ . I give it 5 stars.

The Garmin Nuvi 205 is great except the software included with it is old. I live in Arizona where there is a lot of growth. The software has got to be at least three years old. If you want to find a place in a newly built area, the Garmin cannot find it. I would not buy this again unless it provided free updates on the mapping software.

GARMIN 010-11230-02 Accessory Travel Pack For Garmin Nuvi 200, 205 and 300 Series Review

Amazon advertised this accessory travel pack for the Garmin Nuvi 205 series (which includes the Nuvi 255). Amazon's information was incorrect. The case does not fit the Nuvi 205 or 255. It leaves about three quarters of an inch of the display screen sticking out and exposed to potential damage. Don't waste your money on this accessory travel pack. Amazon also charged me shipping costs for returning this travel pack, even though the need to return it was because of Amazon's inaccurate description of this product. In the future I plan to verify Amazon's product descriptions through another source. If I am unable to verify Amazon's product description, I won't purchase the product from Amazon. Buyer beware!!

Ok..now I feel morally obliged to offer my review after reading so many other reviews to base my buying decision. The inner voice kept asking me to post a review even though it is boring like mowing somebody elses lawn.
I have used nuvi 205 couple of times and find it really well designed. Garmin has tweaked the screen-interface and I must say that it really works in favour of the users.
Users care less about mp3 and other cosmetic stuff provided in nuvi 350. All we care about is a smart GPS that guides us through the best route. 205 has all those ingredients!!
Nuvi 205 does not have spoken street names but it does have voice guidance that says something like " turn right in next 1 mile". Users who typically find guidance through one of those green-freeway-signs are smart enough to figure the street name. Moreover, the street name is right on top of the screen. In my view, it is a waste of $$ to pay 100 bucks more for just yelling street names when it is right in front of you. Satellite acquisition and Route recalculation also seemed to have improved a bit. I have not used the traffic support and POI to offer any good comments. One little feature I find cool is the speed limit mentioned on the screen. This way user doesnt have to be on lookout for signs showing the limit. Of course, this is of little use to people who drive in left lane @ >70...
And for those of you who think that GPS should offer more..205 does have photo navigation, customized car-shaped icons, world travel clock, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator.....I wouldnt really give big grades for having them..
Hope that this review helps users..to navigate to the best GPS!!
