Yes, its hard shell protects the GPS's screen, but more importantly, it is thin enough to fit virtually anywhere the GPS itself might fit. Therefore having this in one's purse or satchel utterly eliminates the lazy-factor we all must overcome - you know, the one that says, "I can't be bothered taking my GPS off the dashboard just to run into the deli... I'll only be in there, what... 5 minutes... nobody will steal it in that short amount of time." When the GPS is in it's dashboard holder, I keep the carrying case unzipped in my satchel. I takes about 5 seconds to unclip it and slide it into the hardshell case, then I zip it. You'll never regret buying one of these cases.

(More customer reviews)It is a nicely made case that is way too big for for the 4.3" GPS I purchased (or too small for this GPS and cord). It has no effective was to secure a GPS of this size inside so it slides around when placed under the elastic strap inside the case and it has no additional cushioning. It seems to be a tough case but but just too big for what I need.
It seems like there are two styles for cases: a tight fitting protective sleeve or a larger case for the unit and accessories. The GPS came with an oversize cord that is too big for the case with the GPS inside. I was looking for a case to protect the GPS in my pocket or bag when on foot.
I really needed to know the case's dimensions before I purchased it- my bad. I will find another use for the case and get a close fitting protective cover.

My GPS fit into the case perfectly and is sufficiently nondescript enough to be mistaken for a date book if accidently left in plain sight in a vehicle. The case is slender enough that when holding the GPS unit, it fits into my computer bag and does not take up a great deal of room. It has protected my GPS during several trips through the hands of airport-TSA inspectors and x-ray machines.
