Garmin Carrying Case for nuvi 295W Portable GPS Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this to go along with a Nuvi 295W that will be a Christmas gift this year. I was looking for a protective case that would fit the Nuvi 295W tightly with some padding. I decided against the Garmin 3.5-Inch Widescreen Carrying Case, which is the case recommended on Garmin's website, because there was a review saying that the 295W could fall out of it's open end. I thought this case would be better since it zips closed.
However, now that I have it, I realize that it is not a perfect fit for the Garmin Nuvi 295W. It is about twice as thick as that unit but the width and height are about right (might be a slightly tight fit width-wise). In fact, if you look up the product number for this case on Garmin's site, you will find that Garmin only lists their Quest and Quest 2 GPS units as "compatible products" for this case, not the Nuvi 295W! So, why has someone at Amazon decided to title the product listing as "Garmin Carrying Case for nuvi 295W Portable GPS"?
Depending on how much padding is on the inside of the case and whether you want to put anything else in it with the Nuvi, this could be an OK solution. I can't be sure yet because I haven't opened it due to the fact that it is intended as a gift and the fact that I am considering returning it.
UPDATE: I kept the case and the gift recipient is using it. The case IS twice as wide on the inside as the Nuvi 295W but it fits snugly enough in the other dimensions so that it doesn't move around too much. You can either add some additional padding or store something like a couple of microSDHC cards in the case with the Nuvi. The case is not ideal, but I still don't see a better option for a zippered case for the Nuvi 295W.
I'm glad to see that Amazon has updated the product description to reflect that this case is originally for the QUEST series.

(More customer reviews)I actually ordered this not for a GPS but for my Samsung Epic4G with the extended battery, regular cell phone cases could not accomodate the beast of a phone so I had the idea to go with this based on the dimensions, its still a little more snug than I would like it to be, but the leather will likely stretch with time and usage, I was hoping to be able to put my ID, cards and cash in with it and use the included ring to hang it from my neck, but that was not meant to be. Great quality leather, nice soft suede-like interior, magnetic closure. Very happy with this purchase!

This carry case is of superior quality construction, has the added benefit of a carry slot on the outside (see picture)AND has a magnetic / post style strap that securely holds your GPS in place.

If the guy had priced each individually he would find that the whole package came to $75.00 retail so $34.99 before the Amazon discount is pretty good. Even if you go out & get the best price you can find for each, you'll still pay between $45.00 & $55.00 plus postage so I think they have a pretty good deal.
By the way I just got my Garmin 255W GPS & needed the accessory travel pack.

(More customer reviews)I read all the reviews and this case works for my wife and me just great. Yes, there is an insert (if you notice in the ad), and the Garmin does not fit in there perfectly and sort of pushes itself out of it (like another reviewer stated), but since the insert is made of foam and cloth, it acts now as a shock absorber. It sort of sits 1/2 way in this foam insert. Looks like that insert was made for another type of GPS, but it still works for our Garmin 855. I just put my Garmin 855 in the case to test to see if it moves around while I shake it pretty hard, and yes it does move somewhat. I feel very safe that if I drop the case, with only the Garmin in it, the case will protect it 100%. So, for me, this formed foam insert adds to the security that my Garmin will not be damaged if dropped. The middle flap protects our Garmin from anything you put in the mesh bag on the other side. However, it will not fit the suction cup, and it will fit the usb, car charger, and the quick manual with ease. I bet it would even fit the optional ac adapter with no problem.
I did my research on the other cases, and this case seems to be the best bet. I don't have to worry about the case turning the Garmin on, and I don't have to worry about damaging it by dropping the darn thing. It holds just about everything, and has a hard case. We think it is great, and a great purchase.

Garmin Hard Carrying Case for Colorado Handheld GPS Units Review

(More customer reviews)I have not always been happy with Garmin's cases for their GPS receivers. The case that they made for my 60CSx was awful. This case for the new Colorado unit is a completely different story.
What I like about it is that you have two different mounting options. One is to use the removable carabiner (or "D" ring) to clip onto your belt, belt loop, bag strap, etc. The other is a velcro strap that allows you to hook it on your belt without having to practically take your belt off (as you do with a simple sewn closed loop). Both secure the case well, however I prefer the velcro loop since the carabiner looks a little too mountain-climby for me when I am geocaching in an urban setting.
The case is closed with a standard clip that allows for one-hand operation. The front of the case drops open giving the user access to the GPSr. I was worried at first that when you open the case the unit might fall out. This seems to be a real possibility in my tests, but you have to be at an awkward angle for it to happen (which is very likely when mountaineering, geocaching, rock climbing or even hiking ). Also, you can close the case without the groves being lined up and hence off-set. I have to believe that this would compromise the water-resistance of the case.
Overall I really like this Garmin case. It is a well thought out accessory for the Colorado GPSr. It will certainly protect your investment and look pretty cool while doing it.
