I wanted to be able to mount my Palm Pre for easy access and viewing while driving and using a Bluetooth headset. The problem with the others was that they would block the USB connector on the side of the phone and I couldn't charge it while driving. The design of the Mobile Grip-IT IUHWS Windshield Mount Kit is perfect. It does the job and I can keep it plugged in and it is fully adjustable for other gadgets like my Garmin GPS. It's a great design and it is well made.

(More customer reviews)After seeking something better than a dashboard matt or magnetic pad for my Nextar GPS unit, I saw this ARKON CM097-2 model being offered. I didn't want the sticky adhesives or pads that crowded the dashboard, but I didn't want to allow the GPS to be visible in the car when parked.
My vehicle is a "2008" Ford Taurus SEL...and it has a console between the front seats. I thought it would best work on the inner, lower dashboard under the radio/cd player, where it could only be viewed by us when in route...it fits well there and it works great..."BUT", it doesn't stay in the upright position when the GSP is mounted on it. The device when the car is in motion and/or experiences a slight jolt...the device tilts over!!
Which means while driving and you glance at it, you sometimes have to reach over and place it back up. It is pushed in enough that I thought the spring clips on the shaft would secure it. Anyways...I will keep working with it to get it to stay upright. The product is a good idea especially when it keeps the device somewhat out of other viewers eyesight.

(More customer reviews)I just got this product and I wasn't satisfied. The product claims that the mount can rotate 360 degrees; however, that's only true for the windshield mount. The vent mount is fixed and doesn't rotate or even tilt.
Although not very stable, the windshield mount is acceptable. The vent mount, on the other hand, isn't that great: it was not easy to install and I had the impression that I was going to break the mount pins as I was pushing it into the vent. My vents in my car are located near the top of the dash, so they are angled and do not face me (as the driver) perfectly; since the vent mount has no rotational capabilities, my phone's orientation isn't convenient and is hard to see while driving. Also, it was quite hard to insert and remove my iphone from the mount as it doesn't fit easily, probably because of the protective case on my iphone. The difficulty in inserting/removing the phone makes it not practical, since the pressure can easily damage my vent if not inserted/removed with care.
Overall, I believe only the windshield mount is usable; otherwise, if you're looking to use the vent mount, then I wouldn't recommend this product unless your vent's orientation in your car faces you perfectly. If you have a protective case on your phone, then I wouldn't recommend this product, since it doesn't fit easily.

Heininger 1040 CommuteMate Black NavCup Review

(More customer reviews)Tried the NavCup with a Garmin Nuvi 265. The NavCup/Garmin was placed on the dash of my wife's Gen 2 Mini Cooper. The dash is made from a harder plastic, but is heavily grained. The NavCup worked well until the car started moving. The whole thing ended up in my wife's lap the first time we pulled away from a stop sign. The first time around a corner resulted in the whole thing sliding across the dash.
I am going to try this on a different car tomorrow to see if performance improves, but at this point I am planning to return for a full refund.
I cannot recommend purchasing the NavCup unless the top of your dash is made from something sticky.

I need to revise this recommendation. Tried the NavCup in several different rented vehicles while on a business trip with better results. The top of the dash greatly affects how well this product works. With my wife's car (see above) the GPS stays put in the NavCup, but the NavCup slides around during acceleration or cornering. I tried the same set-up in my Gen 1 Mini Cooper S (slightly different dash design) and everything stayed put provided that I shoved the NavCup against the windshield, which wedged it in place. The NavCup stayed in place in the cars I renter because the contour of the dash prevented movement.
The NavCup is easier to use when making a rest stop because all you need to do is pick up everything to hide it. I don't have to worry about the GPS dropping off of the windshield because the suction cup mount looses grip on a cold windshield. I also don't have to worry about the NavCup breaking because of rough handling.
The NavCup doesn't work so well on dashes that are flat or slightly crowned. It works much better on dashes that have recesses or contours that will keep everything from sliding around.

(More customer reviews)If you read the other reviews for this product, many of the positive ones were written by California residents, as California does not allow window mounts. These positive reviews led me to purchase this product, but unfortunately, I haven't had the same results. This product worked wonderfully during the warmer season. (I am a resident of Maryland.) I normally keep the dash mount under the seat of the car and pull it out whenever I need to use my Magellan 3140 GPS. When winter came along, however, the mount from my GPS would not stay attached to the Nav-Mat. The mount works fine on the window all year-round, but often fell off the Nav-Mat when it was cold outside. When driving in unchartered territory, you really don't want your GPS to fall onto the floor of your car. If you live in a region where temperatures drop, consider bringing the Nav-Mat with you so it is warm when you attach the mount, or be prepared to have the GPS unit pop off the Nav-Mat.I'm sure if I lived in California, I would have given the product 5 stars as well, as its performance when ambient temperatures are not freezing is perfect.

NAVGEAR Universal Dash Mount Review

(More customer reviews)I've used this bean-bag dash mount for a couple hundred miles in my '95 Saturn SL2. Even with the harder, more "slippery" plastic dash, this mount doesn't slide around. The bottom of the mount is coated in a tacky rubber material. The round suction cup mounting disk fits the default RAM suction cup and Garmin suction cup with room to spare. It will also fit my larger, older RAM suction cup. Suction power is good: I regularly lift this 3.2 pound mount by holding onto the GPS cradle.
The three "wings" of the mount are flexible and move independently of the main body of the mount. The wings help it to contour better to my dash. The wings do stick up a little bit above the plane of the suction cup mounting disk. That interfered a little bit with the bottom edge of my GPS until I rotated the GPS so that the bottom edge was then along one of the gaps.
No regrets on this purchase. I'll probably use this mount more than attaching the GPS to the windshield. It's easier to take off the dash and conceal when not in use and it also permits my wife or me to hold the GPS closer (in the passenger's seat, of course) rather than reaching up to the windshield to make navigation changes.
