Com paired to the Tom Tom the graphics are better. Set up is easy to and the arm that extends from the window is easy to see and dosent get in the way. The problem I have with it is when you try to find different stores or places. THis is the only thing that the Tom Tom is better. Not that it was much better though. I tried finding Whole Foods and 24 hr fitness and either does not give me good directions or cant find it. Updating is also a problem. I cannot figure out how to use it. The TOm TOm was much easier and updated automatically. Also you can change the audio alot better wit a wide selections with the TOm TOm..its not that its a bad GPS its just I expected alot more then what I got

The only thing is that the picture they have is different. The one that I got was the OEM plug so that was good.
Take care of your OEM stuff for Magellan. Wear and tear on these things accelerate ten-fold over time.
4star because I had to buy a new one less than a year later.

Magellan RoadMate 1400 4.3-Inch GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) Review

Magellan RoadMate 1400 4.3-Inch GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this as a second unit/backup for the Navigon 7200T 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigation with Bluetooth, Text-to-Speech, and Free Traffic Alerts.
These are my first 2 portable car GPS units (the others were OEM in-dash units for the Infinity G35 coupe and Acura MDX), so my experience to these are new.
So the review will be more of a comparison.
THE GOOD
-It's a lot more tactile and responsive to the touch than the Navigon, which maybe with its extra bells and whistles responded slower after an input. You don't have to press hard on the Magellan's screen, which is really useful for inputing certain things on the move.
-The speaker is VERY LOUD, which is great. Beats the Navigon hands down.
-The map screen is not as cluttered as the Navigon's. You can also zoom in and out which is good if you want to see more of your surrounding.
THE BAD
-Map screen is not as detailed or nice as the Navigon. It's quite boring to look at it. Let's face it - this is a bare bones model.
-There is no text-to-speech, so street names and freeways/highways are not pronounced, just generic terms and directions. The Navigon is AWESOME in pronouncing the right names. If you live in/travel to places with not so common names, or even English names, you will really appreciate this feature.
THE UGLY
-Yup, it's pretty ugly, not as sleek looking or slim as the Navigon.[...]
PS- the refurbished model looked almost as new, not a scratch or blemish anywhere. You can only tell it's refurbished because of the box/packaging.
This review was done only after a couple days of trying out the Magellan, so maybe I'll do a follow-up soon!

Lowepro Navi Traveler Protective Case for GPS (Black) Review

Lowepro Navi Traveler Protective Case for GPS (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a big fan of portable GPS receivers. I have owned close to a dozen units over the years and currently have about six. Some I use some for hiking or geocaching and others I use when driving or traveling.
After choosing a model and mounting accessory that's right for you the next important decision is finding a protective case that's going to hold everything that you need to take with you. There are plenty of nice cases made for hand-held GPS's but when it comes to automotive units it's much harder the find the right one.
I really like this case from Lowe Pro. It's big enough to hold your GPS, the power cord, a window or friction mount and a few other small accessories yet is still small enough to travel with. I would prefer one a little smaller but then it probably wouldn't hold every thing. I really nice feature is that the exterior pocket (the one that holds the GPS) is padded on both sides for extra protection.
I thought that a video review would help potential buyers to get a better idea as to whether this case would work for them or not. Thanks!

Magellan Maestro 3250 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic and Voice Command Review

Magellan Maestro 3250 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic and Voice Command
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I actually had ordered the 4250, but the seller accidentally sent me the 3250 and I decided to keep it since the only difference really seemed to be size, and I found the 3250 to be bigger than I thought.
I did a lot of pre-purchase research and had settled on Magellan partly due to the AAA integration, but then chose the Maestro **50 series because of the integrated live traffic updates which I think is a GREAT feature - especially since I work in a high-traffic part of the Northeast which I think has some of the most infamous and even nightmare-inducing roads.
I really enjoy the voice command features although I wish more of the system responded to them. For example, it would be nice if they could build in for basic commands to always be recognized (e.g. "Cancel" or "Yes/No").
I am finding the touchscreen to be easy to use and responsive, but would have liked a volume control wheel on the side of the device so that I could control the volume without having to back out of another screen I might be on.
Entering of addresses is definitely improved over older Magellan GPS devices that I've used in rental cars - a suggestion here, however, would be to make the type screen set up like a standard keyboard (think Blackberry) instead of laying out all of the letters in alphabetical order, but this isn't a big deal.
I love the Bluetooth integration, and it works great with my phone even though it wasn't on the pre-loaded list (the only thing it doesn't pick up are SMS messages, but I'm okay with that). A suggestion here would be if it could automatically connect to my phone when I turn it on (like my Bluetooth handsfree does) rather than forcing me to manually connect them both each time which is kind of annoying.
The only other issue I'm having right now is with turning the device on... Sounds strange, I know, but it doesn't seem to always want to come to life when I hit the power button - even if I hold it in for a few seconds. It comes back on easily when I leave it plugged into the car, however with GPS thefts on the rise, I have taken to unhooking it and keeping it with me.
Overall, it's a great GPS for the money and the live traffic, AAA integration, and voice response are, in my opinion, its best features. You can't really go wrong here.

I am a mountain biker and loved the idea of being able to view the screen while riding. BUT the mounting bracket does not hold the explorist well enough. I watched my explorist unit fall to the ground on the first ride and thought I just didn't have it clicked into place. Wrong, because after putting it firmly into the bracket I lost the unit on the next downhill. I was luck enough to find the unit but will never use it on my bike or ATV due to fear of losing it.

Like all the Magellan products, this unit features a sharp, clear interface that is easy to use. You don't need instruction manuals to get started, it's very intuitive. The size of the screen is amazing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that unlike many of the Magellan models I'm familiar with, you can't enable the unit saying the street names. I just announces "Right" "Left" etc. and the distance.

Mio C320 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Mio C320 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this for $150 on black friday. while it does have a few minor faults, for the money it is probably the best GPS out there. the main thing this unit has going for it is how customaziable it is. in the past month, i have changed the following on my unit:
- added text to speech ( a feature normally found on the more expensive 520 version)
- added newer maps with 6 million POI (again, found on the more expensive unit vs. the 1.5 million found out of the box)
- edited the skin of the navigations screen and changed/removed buttons for ease of use
these and other features, such as an optional video player, and many other custom features, can easily be found on google and several gps forums.
obviously, customzing the unit to this extent is not for everyone, and if you are not technically inclined, you might not get the full value out of your c320. however, if you have a decent grasp of computers and software in general , you should take advantage of this great gps - great out of the box, EVEN better once you get to work with it for a few weeks.
--
Update: 5/29
Ok so it's been about 6 months since I got this GPS. In that time, I've downloaded newer maps (now have 12 million POI's), downloaded a custom skin that adds a ton of usability features (easy access to applications like word doc, video player, etc) as well as improving the overall looks, and done some fine tweaking on the settings to improve the TTS. (The applications can only be accessed through a hack, by the way).
However, in adding all these features (most of these were intended for the more expensive C520), my GPS unit started to operate alot more sluggishly. The map would take a few seconds to update after turns, which was unacceptable. There was a noticeable lag between button presses and responses. Like I said, this was probably because all these added features were never meant to be run on the processor of the C320.
I wound up removing all the extra features I added, but I still have text to speech and the newer maps. I also defragged the drive , which helped alot. The lag is very minor but still noticeable. I'd still recommend this unit if you can get it for cheap, as it's better than almost any other sub $150 unit out there.

Magellan 980637 External Antenna Review

Magellan 980637 External Antenna
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Used on new Magellan 760. Happy to see that they gave you instructions. Magellan reference manual doesn't show you how to attach. You have to pull off the antenna attached to the Magellan GPS (it snaps on and off) and plug the external antenna in. The magentic base really holds on to the point it is hard to remove, has a rubber ring base but it doesn't completely cover the whole base just the outside edge. Works well you get a better constant signal than using the units supplied antenna but you have to figure out what to do with all the extra wire that you don't use. I gave it a 4 stars due to the pricing. Check out aftermarket antenna's before buying one.

Magellan RoadMate 6000T 980874-01 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator Review

Magellan RoadMate 6000T 980874-01 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had the Magellan 6000T now for 2 months and I can't imagine traveling without it. I have traveled for 19 years and made more U-turns than I can shake a stick at.
This system has it all... Blue tooth, spoken street names, easy to navigate touch screen, extremely bright screen (automatically darkens at dusk).
This system gives you more heads up about upcoming turns than any other system on the market. For instance, it will let you of a turn two miles ahead, then one mile, then 0.5 mile. Then it has a 0.2 mile yellow bar graph that shrinks as you come to your turn.
I am very glad I got this system with the spoken street names. It gives you that much more information while you are in unfamiliar territory. The street name voice is a different voice from the turn by turn voice. The street name voice has more of an edge which helps you listen easier to the street name.
It has locked up about 4 times (what high tech electronic gadget never locks up) but it was easy to reboot the system.
One of the best features is the traffic alert. I was in Charlotte, NC which I was unfamiliar with driving during rush hour to the other side of town for a meeting. After I left the hotel, it was directing me turn by turn to the Interstate. While sitting at a red light, I happened to notice it flash "I-85 accident" and then it recalculated the route. I couldn't believe it when I got to the interstate, it had brought me to the entrance ramp just ahead of where all three lanes were blocked because of the wreck!!!!! I was very impressed!
It also gives you four options for choosing your route which is twice as many as any other system.
I did a lot of research looking at the Garmin systems and Tom Tom. I printed out at least half a ream of paper of specifications and customer comments. The more I looked at Magellan, the more I realized it was the best value. I'm sure Garmins are good and they will work, but the Magellan 6000T matched their highest priced Nuvi systems feature for feature and was significantly cheaper.
It is easily portable and easily attaches and detaches to the mount. In the rental cars, I can easily mount it on the windshield. I have never had a problem with the suction mount.
On my Chrysler 300 company car, I use the flat disk and mount the system on the dashboard with no problems.
I do not regret my purchase at all.
If you travel, you need to seriously look at getting a portable GPS system. I would strongly recommend the Magellan 6000T.
It will be analogous to life before and after a microwave.

This is my first navigational system, and after doing research I thought it would best fit my needs. So far it has done the job - the screen is comfortable to view and I love the turn by turn directions. I was looking at other models and find this has a good combination of features. It is very easy to use - would recommend it.
The only reason I am rating it 4 stars is because sometimes seems slow in acquiring my GPS location and when I am in a hurry, I don't have the time to wait.

It has never been easier or more fun to get around town or take cross-country trips. With detailed maps of all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and Canada, you can travel the continent with no need to download new data. A single seamless database built in to the hard drive contains all major city streets as well as federal, state and county roads and highways. And if traveling abroad is in your plans, this GPS system comes pre-loaded with detailed maps of 27 European countries that can be unlocked for a fee. When you want a clearer view of your route, simply touch the 3D map icon. This will get both a three-dimensional representation, as well as a bird's-eye view, allowing you to clearly see cross streets and helping you to prepare for upcoming turns. If that's not enough, a turn-by-turn voice and visual guidance feature tells you exactly when to make the next turn, and to confirm the voice instructions, the automatic map zooms in to show your turn and switches to TrueView 3D so that you'll be sure not to miss your turn. These automatic functions make the RoadMate 860T one of the most useful navigation aids you'll ever experience.Add the Magellan TrafficKit to receive live traffic incident reports that appear on the dynamic touch screen map. Touch an onscreen icon to view detailed information about the incident. You can also automatically reroute around accidents, slow-downs, road work, severe weather conditions and more. The TrafficKit service will be available in the Summer of 2006 and it will require a subscription.
If you've got a trip with multiple destinations lined up, the RoadMate 860T can optimize your travel plans. Use the Trip Planner feature to enter addresses or select points of interest (POI) before leave. You can choose the order of each destination, or you can let the Multi-destination Route Optimization system calculate the quickest route between each point from your present location. The feature also allows you to add and subtract destinations as you go, and you can save your trip to repeat the same route again. When you're traveling at night, the displayed map on the RoadMate 860T switches to night view at sundown, and back to day view in the morning. This means that you'll always have a clear view of where you're headed. With SmartVolume, the unit's volume automatically increases at speeds over 45 MPH, which means that voice and audio prompts are always at the right level for maximum clarity.Best of all, the RoadMate 860T is easy to install and is completely portable. You can choose from a selection of mounting accessories, and there's no complicated wiring required. You simply plug in the power cord and you're ready to go. A built-in rechargeable battery lets you take the unit where ever you need to go, and when you want to transfer it to another vehicle, you simply unplug it from one car and plug it into another. It's that simple. At a mere 10.8 ounces in weight and 3.15 x 1.55 x 6.26-inches (W x D x L) in dimension, the RoadMate 860T is meant to be taken wherever your travel plans require.

Magellan 980849 Vehicle Mounting Bracket Review

Magellan 980849 Vehicle Mounting Bracket

Ordered this item based on Magellan website and because it was just what I needed for my Explorer XL GPS - please note picture of item has 3 suction cups, I received an old outdated model that looked like a Martian antenna with a Huge single suction cup. Despite numerous telephone calls to Amazon, they could not get the right product. To date they have sent me 4 items - all incorrect!!! I received promises of actual inventory checking, a review by the catalog dept., and promises by various customer service people to resolve this situation for me, for Amazon, and for other potential buyers. They still have no clue. I received my first item in 01/07 and my fourth in 05/07 and just got my refunds straightened out this week(05/24/07).This is the worst experience I have ever had with a company and I have spent many thousands of dollars with Amazon. I never expect that these events will come to closure.

Magellan Meridian Canvas Carrying Case Review

Magellan Meridian Canvas Carrying Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a basic rectangular padded case - about 8 x 3.5 x 1.5 inches, single compartment, with a 3 inch belt loop on the back. The package says this case fits a Meridian GPS and 4 AA batteries. It does, but the batteries are just loose in the bottom of the case. The Meridian is pretty rugged on its own, but this case is just the thing to keep the screen from getting scratched up. And it is nice to have spare batteries in the same place as the GPS. Also, the case is roomy enough so you could probably slip one or two folded map printouts or geocache descriptions in it as well.
On the other hand, because it has all that room it is a little bulky to wear on the belt. If that's what you want to do then you might look for a smaller generic case instead.

IMHO if you put the money into a portable GPS, then spend a bit for a case. This case WILL fit the Magellan Maestro 3140 and it's easy to get in/out.
I like the closing of the case as it snaps tightly closed each and every time! The sides are an elastic. And it's a hard case! The back has a little hook to put on your belt if you like.

TomTom GO 930 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator Review

TomTom GO 930 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator
Average Reviews:

I've owned Garmin's for more than 5 years and I currently own a NUVI 760. I've heard the great news about the TOMTOM 930 with IQROUTES, lane guidance, and the HOME feature so I decided to buy the 930 so I can give it a spin and compare it to the NUVI 760 with MSN DIRECT.
TOMTOM Pluses:
Arrival time -
The arrival time with IQROUTES are MORE accurate than Garmin's. The NUVI keeps updating the arrival time during the trip. I compared the arrival time from the start and the TOMTOM was more accurate. TOMTOM is constantly collecting the travel times and updating their database. When you sign in to the HOME program the IQroutes from your trips are uploaded to the TOMTOM server.
Routes:
If anyone writes a review about a GPS and states that routes are 100% accurate then they are lieing, I have not found the perfect GPS with perfect routes.
The routes on both the 930 and the NUVI 760 have been identical. With the 930 I see minutes left on the trip, time left, and arrival time. I can even tell the 930 what time I would like to arrive at my destination.I can AVOID any of the roads on my trip. You CANNOT avoid roads on the NUVI 760.
TRAFFIC:
I'm using traffic on the 930 through my ATT Tilt phone and it seems to work and it is accurate. It uses my Tilt to access the traffic on the TOMTOM server through the Internet. If you have cell coverage you should have traffic data.
MSN Traffic on the 760 is not accurate and the avoidance feature does not work that well. The bad thing about the MSN Direct feature is that it does not have good range. I live in Chicago and the service does not work in many of the outlying suburbs.
PLUSES:
Iqroutes are more accurate than the NUVI.
Lane guidance works in my area.
Avoiding roads on your trip.
Being able to correct street names, closed streets, one ways, and many other errors is a big plus.
Traffic works well.
The GPS chip has not lost reception. I've lost the signal numerous times on the NUVI.
More information on the 930 screen than on the 760.
TOMTOM minuses:
The screen is hard to see in sunlight.
The maps are not bad since I loaded the Garmin map look on the 930. I even have the magenta route line on my 930.
The battery does not last more than 1 hour.
The Text to speech does not work all the time. The street names are not pronounced as good as the NUVI.
You don't get the constant reminders that the NUVI 760 provides. Sometimes I don't think that I drive the 930 with my eyes close. With the 760 you can close your eyes and not miss a turn.
I cannot locate an address by ANY city like the NUVI. Sometimes the 930 cannot locate an address if it thinks it's in a different city. You have to input the surrounding city names to get the correct address and route.
