(More customer reviews)I am a big fan of portable GPS receivers. I have owned close to a dozen units over the years and currently have about six. Some I use some for hiking or geocaching and others I use when driving or traveling.
After choosing a model and mounting accessory that's right for you the next important decision is finding a protective case that's going to hold everything that you need to take with you. There are plenty of nice cases made for hand-held GPS's but when it comes to automotive units it's much harder the find the right one.
I really like this case from Lowe Pro. It's big enough to hold your GPS, the power cord, a window or friction mount and a few other small accessories yet is still small enough to travel with. I would prefer one a little smaller but then it probably wouldn't hold every thing. I really nice feature is that the exterior pocket (the one that holds the GPS) is padded on both sides for extra protection.
I thought that a video review would help potential buyers to get a better idea as to whether this case would work for them or not. Thanks!

The Bargaincell vendor has bad and slow customer service support. Buyers should not buy these items. The cost of shipping back and fort is more than the cost you pay for the products. Of course you also waste your time to go to post office to ship them back to return and all other hassle.

Garmin 010-10987-01 Speech Recognition Remote Review

(More customer reviews)I too love the voice activation on the 885T, and I also lost the remote when moving it to another car. Unfortunately, no instructions on how to activate the 2nd remote were included in the package. In regards to S. Jamieson's 1 star review, I did a quick search on Garmin's website and found out how to activate the remote:
To activate a second ASR remote with your 8xx unit:
1.Power the device on
2.Touch Tool
3.Touch Settings
4.Touch System
5.Touch the down arrow
6.Touch Add or Change next to Remote
7.Touch Activate New Remote
8.Press a button on the ASR remote
9.Touch Ok
10.Touch and hold the Back button to return to the main menu
The instructions above worked like a charm.
My only complaint is the inability to customize the main map screen with a compass, and miles to destination. If anyone knows how to do that, please share!

Every time I backed out of my driveway or hit a bump the GPS would power on as if I had just plugged it in. I used a regular USB charger for a while and it didn't happen any more but I needed one of these cables to also handle the FM antenna for traffic alerts. I've had the new cable for a week or so and have not had any more problems so I'm hoping my first one was just defective and not an indication of poor quality in all of these cables.

Garmin Automotive Mount for nüvi Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this thing thinking I can mount it to the top of my dash. My dash has a slight curve to it, but, it looked like there was a few flat spots where the base could mount. I already new the suction cup wouldn't work on my dash.
Didn't work using the temporary adhessive. The temporary adhessive didn't stick to the dash at all. Before installation, I did wash/dry the dash good, to avoid oils, dust and other containmenants from effecting the adhessive. Playing with the second adhesive disk, it appears I need to mount this thing on a perfectly smooth and flat surface. The permanent adhessive should have better luck because it's stronger and probably can stick with less surface contact between it and the dash, but, by then I found I didn't like mounting the unit on the dash afte all.
Beyond the base, the biggest disappointment with this thing is that the arm that attaches to the base and ends in a ball upon which you mount the Nuvi mounting plate is fixed and doesn't adjust like the suction cup arm that comes with the Nuvi. If it did, I could possibly mount the base in the little shelf below the radio, with the end of the arm sticking out far enough to mount the Nuvi (which actually could work with the suction cup and that hard disk that comes with the Nuvi). Only way to use the arm is mounted on top of a horizonntal surface, like your dash.
Using the arm with the bean bag (this little piece of plastic is REALLY expensive) sort of worked until I had to suddenly swerve one day. Came crashing down --- happened after about a week of driving.
This period was long enough though to convince me that I rather not mount the Nuvi on the dash. Mounting on the dash is great for visibility of the Nuvi screen and for hearing the bluetooth hands free setup. But, the glow of the Nuvi on my windsheild was too distracting.
In the end, I bought a custom dash mount for my car that costs me $60 (Proclip). Works great, and I wasted my money on the Garmin Auto Mount and bean bag.Last negative: the quick release plate that connects to the suction cup that comes with the Nuvi has a microphone jack on it. The quick release plate that comes with the automotive mount doesn't. That sucks if you were thinking of using the auto mount in a second car.

MOBI 70081 Universal GPS Lighter Charger Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a GPS car charger after the one I had for my Mitac Mio P550 disintegrated (the rubber simply started peeling off) and was eventually discontinued. I purchased this one on Amazon.com for $10 and am very happy to have done so. First and foremost it works with my GPS unit. Secondly, it actually looks and feels more solid than the original one (but only time will tell if it really is) and was purchased for less than half the price. The specifications sheet indicates that it charges a 1100mAh extended battery in less than 2 hours and a 600mAh standard battery in less than 1 (I haven't tested that though). It also states that it has an "intelligent switching circuit" that will recognize a full battery and switch over into saver mode. This means that the plug will not overheat or overcharge a battery. The LED charging indicator isn't too bright and shouldn't distract you. The charger part fits snugly into our car's cigarette lighter socket and doesn't look like it may pop out or anything (this is important as we will be using it mostly in Africa on rough terrain). I feared that the cord itself may be slightly on the short side but it turned out to be just the right length to connect to a windshield mounted GPS unit on a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. All in all, a good purchase.

After getting a RAM mount (from somewhere else, I don't think Amazon sells them), this did mount easily and quickly to my bike, just be aware, that you need a RAM mount in addition to this kit, which is really just a connection from a RAM mount to the garmin device

My only complaint is that you have to coil up the wire just so for it to fit in the front pocket. If you're a clumsy person then this may not be the case for you. It doesn't seem the GPS you put in it would survive if you were to drop it in this case on say a side walk. If you're like me and just want a case to put it in after you're done using it and put it in your glove box so the screen doesn't get scratched then this is the case for you.

Garmin External Microphone (010-10804-00) Review

(More customer reviews)Works as it should. No noise cancellation means it can get a little noisy but it's better than my phone's speakerphone option. Personally I find the nuvi's built-in mic too lousy to use, as all my callers will complain that they can't hear me. I also left myself messages in my voicemail to test the quality and my conclusion is that the External Microphone offers the best quality vs using my phone's or the Nuvi's built-in mic.
Also comes with two mounting options - a non-adhesive one that will clip to your visor, and another with an adhesive mounting strip which you can stick to the side pillar or somewhere close to your mouth. :)

It indicates that you have power. The piece that snaps into the eTrex seems to connect well. It's never come unplugged after rolling around in my truck. The cord is plenty long for my needs--about four feet. My only complaint is the cost. The price was a little more than I would liked to have spent, but it's the only game in town.

GARMIN 010-10456-00 GPSmap 60 Series Auto Mount Review

(More customer reviews)so far (few days) this seems to work fine..a little "bouncy" with the arm fully extended, but that's just the nature of it. (everyone may not extend the arm the way I did, but it lets you if you want).
It does adjust to just about any angle you need, and in that way is very flexible in its design (3 adjustments, one for how far the arm extends, a second for tilt of the unit front to back and a third for rotation of the unit, e.g. if the base is not mounted on a spot on your dash level to the ground). The permanent adhesive seems to be working well (the temporary adhesive didn't last in the 100+ degree heat direct sun from our heat wave, but worked ok until it got that hot).
one important clarification to a below review - this unit, Garmin 010-10456-00, comes with the base you need to mount it on your dash. (it's really three parts - the clip for your gps, the rotating / adjusting arm and the swivel base that attaches to your dash). so, contrary to the below earlier dated review, you don't need anything additional for this mount.
however, if you'd like to mount this unit in a second vehicle, you can purchase either a second swivel base (e.g. just the base that sticks to your dask) separately, or the weighted base, kind of a bean bag with the swivel base attached. Both of those are the base only and require you to already have the arm and clip for the GPS which come in this package, but let you buy only a new base without having to buy the clip and arm over again.
